Corduroy Fuzz pcb question

I'm a casual builder with just enough knowledge to get in trouble.
Buillding the Corduroy Fuzz and seeing two things on the PCB I haven't noticed before.
(1) Why 5 pinout ports for a 3-pin trimmer pot ?
2) What are the little metallic pads that show just above the Q2, Q3, and Q4 transistor locations ?

The 5 pads are to accommodate different types of trimmers and the small pads are to allow you to use smd transistors

For the Q’s, use one or the other.

For the trimmers, no need to do anything with the unused pads.
