I really like learabout the circuits as I build them.

I've read the thread. Very informative!
Sounds like I should look at using a green difused led instead white. Or perhaps one of the other colors Chuck recommended.

One thing I must have missed was what the optional leds are for on the boneyard edition circuit. When I look at the circuit schematic, they look like soft clipping diodes in an overdrive circuit. So I know I am missing something...lol.

You’re on the right track:

The optional LEDs across the LDR provide soft clipping at the initial attack of a note or chord to keep IC1.1 from saturating. They only come into play if SUSTAIN, ATTACK and/or RELEASE are maxed out. Otherwise, they don't turn on.
