Duophase LDR positioning

I'm planning on building a duophase in the coming weeks and was wondering if I should lay the LDRs flat against the pcb, or point them towards the yellow LED?
Ive seen it done both ways on builds but wasn't sure which yields the best results. Thanks in advance!

I always point them towards it...laying them flat facing up would kinda defeat the purpose
