Echo Foxtrot - Sushibox FX

Well this pedal was done and had been sitting ready to go about a week waiting for one blasted part.

When I put my order together for this build I missed the 6v voltage regulator.
I found out when I went to go pull the parts to build it. Ugh.

So I thought I'd go the faster route and order from Amazon. It was supposed to arrive 4 days ago. Then I get the "Your package has been delayed" messages....no duhh......Then I get a "Your package may be lost" message.....arrrrrggghhhh.

Anyway, I was going to give till tomorrow before re-ordering.

I was in my garage, just finishing up populating my LMF board, I had the garage door open, the weather was lovely today.
And at 6:15pm a U-Haul van pulls up to the house, and out steps an Amazon delivery dude......I'm like "whaaaaat the.......".

Anyway, he hands me my package with my voltage regulators and I literally opened it right then and there and installed in hahah.

Buttoned up the build after dinner.
I've been looking forward to this one as soon as @vigilante398 announced it. I've always loved the EF86 channel on a Matchless DC30.

Build went super smooth, it's an easy build once past the learning curve of building these boards.
The Echo Foxtrot has less components as the Space Heater (I think...) It feels like it's laid out a bit more spaciously.

Basically it's a Space Heater tube pre-amp/boost but with an EF86 instead of 12AX7.

I love both the Space Heaters that I've built. I have one set up as a clean tone conditioner and the other as a boost.
I wasn't quite sure how the EF version would sound but when I fired it up I was rewarded with that thick rich, chewy, warmth from the EF86 tube.
I think @vigilante398 really nailed it with this one in replicating "that" sound!

Overall, this is really a clean boost as opposed to an overdrive. There is less gain and less output compared to the Space Heater.
But there's plenty of "oomph" to drive another drive pedal or amp. It could be the tube I'm using (TAD) but you really have to push it pretty hard to use it as an overdrive. But that's not what I'll be using it for.

Totally love the sound of this pedal, much more experimenting with it tomorrow!
Thank you @vigilante398!

By buying the pre-drilled enclosures from SushiBox....... :p . Nathan is having them made by someone, can't remember who, that has a CNC.
Ha! That would make sense! As a credit to you it did cross my mind that you would go that extra mile to bring your builds to that next level. You draw the line a labels but somehow I can see you grabbing the dremel tool to cut vents.

Do you even sleep or have a life? I swear you've been posting a build report every day for months now :)

How did you achieve that finish? Rattle can and call it day and let it get reliced with use or do you have a spray booth and a hazmat suit?
I have no life......

It's me, I have a CNC :P I do all the machining myself.

Working on wiring the LED in the middle and touched the wrong thing.
Oof, I feel your pain. I've been doing this for a while, and I've been "bitten" more times than I care to count. I feel like each time it happens I get more careful so it happens less and less, but it still happens.

Is it possible to drain the caps like in a tube amp?
BTW I saw this cool video about it

Right!

The HV caps in all of my builds are self-draining, as soon as power is removed they should be safe to handle within seconds. It's only when you're poking around while they're plugged in that they're dangerous.
That's good to know. I've completely avoided opening the box once it's been powered. Except the very gingerly swap tubes on the BE. hahaha.

So I know virtually nada about EF86 tubes. The one I got was a Tube Amp Doctor EF86 just based on the brand and past experience.
Are there different gain EF86's?
