How do YOU like to use delay?

For and only as of now my signal chain is guitar > tuner > modded Wah >boss CS-3 > Boss NS-2 > disaster transporter > Sonic Stomp >Amp
Boss NS-2 Send > Sonic Titan > Valhalla> Boss NS-2 Return
I use delay mildly in conjunction with a splash of reverb. For me (and maybe it's my delay choice) but too much starts too muddy the water too much for me. I like notes to sing out it bugs me when it sounds like 20 moving blankets have been thrown over my amp and there's no articulation
but I'm constantly swapping pedals out. Some days for whatever reason with my setup untouched I'll go back the next day turn the amp on and it just won't sound as good as the day before other days it's just fine
My girl says it's all in my head. Hmmmm.....maybe

I mainly use slapback these days. It's from playing in rockabilly bands and playing Gretsches I guess - Gretsches LOVE slapback delay.

I used to use delay a lot more. I was inspired by U2, Simple Minds, the Cure, etc. Then it was Jimmy Wilsey. Nowadays I seem to go for dryer sounds - no reverb, no delay. But the Source Audio Collider (reverb and delay in one pedal) is still one of the three pedals on my board. I guess the change is for a few reasons - tastes in what I play, plus feeling less need for effects because my base tone is so much better these days. But also because home-brew tweed amps in pine cabs and thin baffles don't seem to need much embellishment. They fill my room with sound with little help!

Oooooh, I like this thread 😁. I’m gonna need to post some clips of my shit but, my setup is this. First, I set my delays to around 450ms, 5 to 6 repeats, and a low mix. Think Adam Jones and the intro to Lateralus. Second, I run my delay into a flanger to modulate the repeats. Again, very Adam Jones sounding but, I love that sound. My whole pedalboard is a tuner, phaser, delay, and then a flanger. All into the front of a Ceriatone 2202. My favorite delay thus far is the Madbean Man O War I just built.

What I like to do is build one, and then throw it on the pile of others that I've built. Delays are like candy. The other thing I use it for is for a little bit of depth in place of reverb.
I’m slowly getting to that point. I have 5 delays that I’ve built that just sit on the shelf.

Thread Deja vu

BARTENDER: What's with the big pause?

POLAR BEAR: I dunno, I was born with 'em.

I don't have a clue what tool sounds like so you're definitely gonna have to post a clip

That’s next level meta-delaying. A digital delay modeler copying another digital delay modeler.

Brains really start to explode when you try and contemplate what El-Cap setting you copied:

🤣🤣🤣 so true it’s like it was more just a convenient name for a tape delay preset after I watched a nice demo video from like chords of Orion or something.

On a related note I did find a good approximation of Andy Timmons Timeline settings that are supposed to mimic his stereo DMM setup. It’s a great sound. It’s a dual delay 1/4 note + dotted 1/8 at 500ms with some modulation dialed in to taste. To answer the original post, I use this delay quite a bit now.
