Tbh I'm mainly using sockets to help with any troubleshooting issues (including IC's installed the wrong way around). That's pretty much the only reason I even use sockets in the first place - troubleshooting pedals with sockets is so much easier than ones without sockets.

Bending the legs is not rocket science! Just place the IC on its side against a flat surface and gently push the plastic body to 90 degrees to the surface. Flip it over and repeat. Whichever type socket works for you is the one to use. My only other observation is that since I've been using only machined sockets I have become more attractive to the opposite sex. Coincidence?

I too found that ever since I started taking a keen interest in sockets, ICs, and audio electronics in general, I also began attracting the opposite of sex!

Bending the legs is not rocket science

I’ve never tried pre-bending them.

I just drop one row into the socket then nudge the second row into place with my thumb.
