I don't know anything about the referenced pedals, maybe they're crap, but in general I back anyone promoting the idea that pedals built on a small scale by a person should be expensive. If I got paid a living wage to build pedals the way I'm putting them together they would be laughably expensive, and that's not accounting for time and money I would have to spend on marketing, sales, sourcing, R&D, design, testing, customer service, etc.
I know some folks here are generating some worthwhile income building pedals as a side hustle, and selling them for less than 500 a piece, but I have to imagine if you were accounting for all your time and trying to really make a living at it, pedals could easily get close to that price.
You can buy a distortion pedal, or a tremolo on Amazon for $20, and I bet some of them sound great. By that measure you could say an $80 pedal is a ripoff too.
I think if we want people out there making/ designing/ building cool things, someone somewhere needs to be coughing up some $$$. Good on these guys for trying.

You're not paying $500 for a tube screamer. You're paying $500 for a guitar hero/celebrity to build you a tube screamer. I know some people haven't heard of this dude, but he was pretty popular back in the day. I've seen him referenced as a influence by Zakk Wylde and Paul Gilbert in multiple interviews.

That’s the impression I was under when he first announced this venture a few years back, but it seems that now he’s just signing pedals that are being manufactured by someone else to his specs.
While I wouldn’t pay it, $500 for a pedal built by your favorite guitarist is understandable to an extent, but this now seems to be $500 for a pedal built elsewhere and autographed by him.
