You must dig unmusical feedback and uncontrollable oscillation ……to build a dual pedal with the boost feeding into the newly revamped OD.
A Door Stop?I've built both and really like them as a boost pushing a mild OD. In that setting I seem to prefer the Overdriver. In fact for every use I seem to prefer the Overdriver. I don't really see the point of the 18V version, but then I'm not trying to sound like Dave Gilmour. And FWIW neither of them seem to sound remotely like the JHS Crayon to me! Totally different pedals. I'm not sure I have found a use for the Crayon yet...

Curious, why do you think that is? Could it be the "sweet spot" for operating voltage of the components? You can build any of them to be 18v capable. To my ears, as a clean boost, any of them sound slightly better at 18v.

I'm not sure, and even though I'm an EE, I work in the utilities so I am not an authority on microelectronics.
I can only relay my subjective experiences: With the gain from 7:00-12:30, the ability of the pedal to give a better (to my ears) fat, transparent clean boost seemed best at 18v.
