My dear chaps.. for those of you who use Affinity Designer (AD), v2 was released today and they have 40% discounts right now.

That means €15 for a copy of AD on iPad.. can't beat that.

I've been using AD on Mac for a while for pedal designs and I'm really happy with it. A single tool for design and export for Tayda UV (I like Inkscape as well, but AD just worked better for me). I wanted to use it on iPad to take advantage of the pencil and so far, I am happy. I can free draw phallic symbols and do all the things I want to do.

Thanks for the heads up! Grabbed the suite while it was on sale.

For $99 I got all three applications (Designer, Photo, and Publisher) with licenses for all three platforms (Windows, MacOS, iPadOS).

Nice, V2 installs alongside V1, rather than replacing it. I don't adapt to change very quickly, so that's much appreciated!

I think I'll cancel this silly Adobe CC subscription now, I haven't used it a single time since subscribing.

If I buy Affinity Designer do I also need access to Illustrator to make the right kind of file for Tayda UV prints? Or will AD be all I need? I've really been wanting to get some UV printing done, but I haven't made the leap yet.

Well, shit. I bought the version 2 not realizing my ancient computer running OS X 10.13.6 would not run it. I missed the software requirements and just looked at the hardware requirements. :sneaky:

I've been meaning to get a new computer this year, but derp.

So, do I buy an iPad and pay less for the associated version of Affinity thingy,

OR

do I use my Mac laptop and pay a pee-wit more for the compooter version?

I like the pen-tablet thinger, but I could just buy a pen for my 'puter... I can't draw for crud, so maybe I don't even need a pen?

I downloaded the PC trial version last night and will probably get to the Pad version in the next few days. But judging by my experiences with Affinity Photo on the Pad and Designer on my PC, I would definitely start with the 'pooter version first. File management/transfer is just so much easier for me, not being in an all Apple ecosystem.

Reason #1021 why Adobe is dead to me

Now don't get me wrong, I fully expected a charge for cancelling early.... but what I expected was the pro-rated difference that I would have paid if I hadn't received the annual plan discount. I've received the "annual plan" discount for four months, it seems more than fair I would be charged the difference between the full price and the discount I received for those four months.

Instead, Adobe is going to fine me for the months I won't be using the software.

Well played Adobe.... well played.... you won't get me again. ;)(y)

For Mac users, did you buy direct or via the App Store? I’d rather give all the money to Serif as they seem to be offering a good product at a sensible price, even when not on sale. But is there an advantage to getting it through the App Store?

You buy it from Serif either way. The App Store downloads (I believe) are zero cost with licensing handled via Serif.

Also, I agree with everyone here that has good things to say about Affinity Designer. I've been using it for a bit and have had zero issues with Tayda's UV service.

Pachyderm Pedals has several pre-made Affinity Designer files for use with pre-drilled enclosures at Tayda for PedalPCB projects:

If there's enough interest, I can create and share a file repository with mods I've made to base AD templates that allow for better alignment and more synchronous designs in Affinity Designer.

I'd especiallylike to see a three layer PDF that was exported directly from AD with the right layer order, I've yet to be able to achieve that and Tayda's tutorial insists it flat out has to be that way. For my last print job with them I very reluctantly reverted to Illustrator and Tayda mucked it up badly even after several revisions on my part. I'm super happy with Amplifyfun but there are still times when using Tayda might be useful.

I have some in the link in my signature but they’re all single layer. I’ve done dual layer but never gloss. I’ll sort out a dual layer one for you. Nearly all the time it’s not using spot colors in the swatches for the white or gloss layer.
