It looks like if you remove/jumper r13, r14, d2 you wouldn't have the always on indicator light. Is that correct or is it d1, r11, and r12 you'd omit?

D2 looks like the speed indicator LED coming from the output of IC2.1
I think R13 is the CLR, I'm not sure what R14 does and if it's connected to the depth pot I'd just leave D2 out and jumper R13 so R14 still has a path to ground or leave all 3 out and see what happens
