Rick Beato interviews David Gilmour

It’s okay to like someone without defending them against people that do not. Miscellaneous YouTube personalities are nothing to hold sacrosanct.

I don't think Beato needs any defendent, what I mean is most of the criticisms I read seem to me a bit out of scope, I don't see any other quality interviews at the same level at the moment, they seem motivated from the dislike of the character and not by the content

I liked him for a while, but the more I watched his vids the less they made sense. It's ok if you like him, but check out the two vids I linked and read back about my comments on his interviewing style. But again, if you disagree that's fine.

There are lots of spectacular interviews on youtube, you just have to search for them and be open to watching people you aren't familiar with. Beato tends to rehash many of the older interviews, which esp with someone like David Gilmour, who has already been covered many times over in interviews and documentaries, is tiring to watch.

His Original Sin is Shinedown. Everything else icing on the cake. He’s a less talented Bonamassa. He reminds me of Jay Leno…

I didn't know Gilmour was in Shinedown, much less ever hearing him compared to Bonomassa.
The Leno comment though, well, really...? I'll just take that last one on the chin.

I have a soft spot for Jay Leno due to his massive and all encompassing car collection, as well has his considerable efforts in restoration and documentation. But I get the "pandering to the masses" sentiment.

and yes, he does have a massive chin

I saw a percussionist last Thursday that made Leno's chin look inverse. Seriously.

I remember seeing Leno play a dippy mob guy long before he was a talkshow-host, he was funny then; not sure if I'd find that movie would be funny to me today. 🤷‍♂️

I, too, generally like Leno. He's done some amazing archiving of interesting cars, whether his own or ones that he features on his web-channel.

Look into the reasons comedians dont like Leno. He's considered a traitor by some, and a cantaloupe by others...they prolly crazy, though...

"...a less talented Bonnamassa..." Wow. That's as harsh as I can imagine. I guess Bonnamassa is talented but not in any way I value. That's almost like saying a less talented Miley Cyrus. Probably talented but so irritating that you don't get so far as to appreciate it.

Beato is interviewing iconic musicians and producers who are going to pass away in the next two decades. Preserving their memory of classic recordings and songs is important work.

Dislike Beato all you want for his other content but in his interviews he prompts the artist and then shuts up so his (objectionable to some) personality doesn't shine down through. And his interviews are geared towards musicians and gear heads. No one else is doing it at the moment at that high profile.

I really hope he manages to interview Paul and Ringo before it's too late. If he does we'll have to thank the Spotify shit list and old man rants videos he does, which gave him the clout to access those musicians.

I'm sure there are many YouTubers who focus on contemporary music, I don't follow that content.

Years ago I found these gems. A contemporary orchestral composer interviewed members of Captain Beefheart's Magic Band.
Priceless!
