Hi All. Can someone confirm my understanding of the new tariffs and the changes to the de minimis law about paying tariffs on imports is correct? The de minimis law of not having to pay tariffs on goods under $800 still applies so long as the shipment is not being imported from China or Hong Kong, right? I don’t think I’ll have to pay the new tariff rate for my next Tayda order, but I am not sure. Thanks in advance.

Mine got here yesterday and also no tariffs (also under the de minimis). I would like clarification on this as well. I've heard that 12:00am May 2nd it officially goes away from every country currently with an existing de minimis exemption, but the rapidity of changes makes nothing clear. i.e. I'm expecting 36% after May 2nd, but we'll see how a mind(?) changes things.

If this is true, I feel pretty good about getting my order in--I was sitting on that order since november, and these threads about tarriffs finally got me nervous enough to act on it.

You're not alone—this topic has been confusing for a lot of people lately. Based on what I've gathered and seen others report:


You're right that the de minimis threshold (under $800) is still currently in effect, meaning no tariffs for imports under that amount, regardless of origin—for now. The key date is indeed May 2nd, when the U.S. is set to remove the de minimis exemption specifically for goods originating from China.


As for Tayda shipments, it gets tricky. If Tayda ships from Thailand but includes items manufactured in China, then under the rules of "country of origin," those Chinese-made items may still be considered Chinese for tariff purposes. That means even if the shipping point is Thailand, customs may assess tariffs based on the origin of individual items—yes, a logistical nightmare.


However, that would only become a real concern if de minimis is removed for Thailand too. So far, there's been no announcement of that happening, so as long as your total declared value is under $800, and the shipment clears customs before May 2nd, you're likely fine.


After May 2nd, if the de minimis change for China takes effect as planned, shipments with Chinese-origin items may start getting flagged—even if they're shipped from somewhere else.


Your guess seems reasonable: until Thailand loses de minimis status, Tayda shipments from Thailand that are under $800 probably won't see a change right away. But it’s worth keeping an eye on how customs handles mixed-origin shipments going forward.

Just tried to place an order. They say tariffs are covered but only offer the option of a flat $15+ DHS shipping feee. 2-4 days. My order was around $18. So I'll wait until I have a larger order.

$115.64 order incurred $33.02 in "tariff included shipping" via DHL. "Tariff included and all fees are paid, you won't pay anything more, DHL 2 to 4 Business Days Delivery."

I am waiting on an order I placed a week ago. The shipping and handling costs jumped up to $38, but I also ordered more enclosures so I expect the weight was higher. Doing the math after reading above, I think that the services (drill and print) may not have been included in the value of my order. If I subtract the services, I can squint and see that maybe my order got hit with a 19% tariff with modest sum left over for shipping costs.

Non-Tayda, but... YAYYYY $17 shipping/fees on a single $15 pcb from Canada now. Absolutely not DEFX's fault of course, they have to lump it all in. What a truly awesome, necessary thing to put your citizens through!
