Small 1uF electrolytics

Anyone know where you might be able to get these tiny 1uF/50V caps anymore? I’m running to the end of my supply and they sure are nice being at least 1/2 the size of most I can seem to find.

That’s what I’m seeing everywhere is 4x7mm. These I have are 3x5mm and fit where the normal ones I find won’t.

Here I have one circled on a Madbean Glitchee. The very bottom cap on the board is a 1uF/160v which I believe is 5x11mm (that’s the only other 1uF I had and I didn’t want to use the few small ones I had left.

You could use tants when you need a small 1µF cap.

Many of us have been there. PCB is freshly populated, tested and working great. Now it's time to stuff all that goodness into a prepped enclosure. The drill holes have all been made and pre-fit tested for proper alignment and the guts go in nicely and even the jacks are spot-on with no interferences. Great! But then you go to screw that bottom plate on, only to find a few of the caps are too tall for the bottom plate to rest flat for closure.

Sometimes we can go back in and lay some of those tall caps on their side, or perhaps there is room on the solder-side of the PCB the jockey those...

Sometimes when I need a small one, I take an SMD cap, bend out the bottom legs and remove the plastic base.

I’ve been transitioning to basically just using SMD caps for the last year or two. They’re cheap and plentiful and it’s not enough of a drag to not do it every time.

They are 3x5mm nichicons. Those 4x5 are the smallest I’ve seen so far besides the ones I have.

Unfortunately, the 1µF SMD electrolytic caps are too small.

You could use tants when you need a small 1µF cap.

I think this is probably the way to go. I should have bought 3-400 of the ones I have instead of 100. They were way cheaper than tants.

There's enough room on the layout there to use a 1µF box-film or mylar... may be preferable if it's in the signal path.

I use the mini caps as well from time to time. My shop says that they're from Panasonic. My tester says ESR is quite low.

But capacitance is usually a bit on the high side. Like, 2u2 is more like 2u6, 4u7 is more like 5u2. Although the last time I ordered the 50V variety and they had less variance, they quite hit the spot.
