Supreme Court rules DJ's tariffs illegal

They'll find some new way to screw everything up.

At least I'm having a fun civics lesson in finding and trying to decipher the opaque documents of government.

There's a naive/ optimistic reading that maybe suggests the invalidated powers were the basis for suspending the de minimis exemption. I'd be excited to have that back just for my personal international money-wasting.

My prediction is that he will continue to charge money for imports but call it The Trump Protection Plan and put the money straight into his "Peace" fund.

Just trying to think like a super corrupt, conman, wannabe gangster

I just mentioned this in the other thread but you beat me to it! If there is any glimmer hope it will be shut out in July 2027 when the “Big Beautiful Bill” repeals de minimis entirely…

According to a CNBC article that cites this source: https://www.congress.gov/crs-product/R48549#_Ref196320321 states that Trump ended de minimis using the IEEPA, though the Supreme Court ruling makes no mention of de minimis.

In any case, effective July 1, 2027 the “Big Beautiful Bill” will repeal the basis for de minimis exemptions that exists under the US Tariff Act of 1930. The Trump admin has specifically targeted de minimis as a vector for fentanyl being shipped to the US: https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-she...-exemption-for-commercial-shipments-globally/

It will be interesting to see what happens with the fees associated with collecting tariffs that DHL etc. charged. Since tariffs are now finally ruled officially illegal, they collected fees for something that is not legal.

Complicated times indeed.

“Wannabe?”

Wannabe Mafia Don, maybe…

The two-bit neighborhood guy who breaks your windows and then offers you “protection” for a “reasonable monthly fee”?
He’s got that gangster act down, flat!

You guys still think court rulings mean anything? :ROFLMAO:

Nothing will happen, nobody will get refunds, they'll keep charging tariffs.

At least he's draining the swamp and making everything great again, guys. Look on the bright side - he slashed taxes on the uber-wealthy.

“Wannabe?”
Yes, he is not a serious person, that figured out some dummies somehow take him seriously, because they didn't get the joke that was the apprentice. The average person would not even know a real gansters name.

+15%..

The UK had negotiated an agreement for 10% tariffs for UK products, with reciprocal tariffs for US goods. Keeping it all nice and happy..

Now that's been torn up - US buyers get 15% on UK goods.. and given the breaking of agreement the US imports to the UK get 15% more expensive (not sure of that's been announced but I suspect it would be likely).

Now multiply that by every country that has negotiated under 15%.. and given the negotiations were in good faith, that may make it more difficult next time around.. 🍿
