The best fuzz bass tone ever?

Thank you for this. I found the USA album on Spotify. I wasn’t aware it had been uploaded. I have been studying KC circa 1973-1974. The Great Deceiver live album (parts I and II) have been on constant rotation. I put USA (live at Asbury Park) on during my run today. The Asbury Park concert really stands apart from the other recordings from this tour (which was opening for the Kinks, strangely enough). Bruford’s drums (except the kick) are very well recorded. And Wetton’s bass did not sound as good as at Asbury Park. My only complaint is that Fripp’s guitar is a bit low in the mix, and with too much of the room mixed in. Also, the crowd won’t shut up. At least no one was yelling “Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce”…If you haven’t heard it, the Providence, RI, gig (Great Deceiver, Pt. I) is excellent, and is peak Crimson.

Sounds like Wetton splurged on a fresh 9v at Asbury Park…

That was a joke: his fuzz was especially prominent that night, implying that the reason was a fresh battery in the pedal. John Wetton used a P-Bass (passive), and a Jen Double Sound, which was a combo Fuzz and wah...

9V? So it's an active bass. What fuzz pedal was he using?
Passive P Bass, and a Jen Double Sound Fuzz Wah into a pretty absurd set of HiWatt DR103s into some unidentified cabinets (based on one particular stage setup from 1974, I think it may have been a pair of 4x12s, a 2x12, and two 1x15s)

I used to have a Schaller fuzz wah from the 70s. It wasn't aggressive enough for me. BC183s inside IIRC. On bass it sounded like a wet fart. The original fart pedal?
