Tommy switching question

Just looking at the Tommy III, what does this switch do exactly. It doesn't, on the surface, appear to be switching anything.

Looks like it bypasses D4 for asymmetrical clipping so more or less routes the signal through the path of least resistance either through D4 or not

It just looks a bit strange from what I’ve seen before. Logically, it looks like it would still be in there, but voltage wise, I guess it removes enough that the audio signal doesn’t go through there and clip.

Switch OFF, symmetrical clipping







Switch ON, asymmetrical clipping (D4 is shorted by the switch, effectively out of circuit)

If I just don’t install the switch it will be the symmetrical or I could just jumper the middle pad and left pad for assymetrical correct ?
