VHS (JHS VCR clone) boost not boosting

I've built 3 VHS pedals so far... one for me, one for a friend, and one as a spare in case anyone else wants to try one out.

I recently bought an actual JHS VCR and put them head to head...
The Pedal PCB version is just a BETTER pedal. The Chorus is more present, The Reverb sounds more dynamic...
I have only one "complaint"... The volume boost...

The JHS volume boost adds a fatness... almost a very low overdrive to the signal that is very cool... it reminds me of a (I HATE THIS TERM) "transparent overdrive"... just a touch of extra gain...

With the three VHS pedals I've built, it seems to me the Volume is just a volume... it just makes the pedal louder.
Not necessarily a problem, as it could be useful to come out for solos or to prevent any volume drop like some reverb/delay/chorus can have... but it would be cool to have that slight boost thing the JHS has... Just curious where one would start... I'm assuming the components involving pin 5/6 of the TL072 seen in the attached schematic? Perhaps upping the size of the 220n cap in C12?
