What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Who remembers 1997?!?

friend gave this to me, Zip drive eject is busted so going to repair it other wise it’s in good shape.

I am still friends with my high school bandmates from 1997, we are going to try and record something on this. It’s been years since I’ve used something with just 8 tracks. I think the last time was 2001-2000 on a Tascam 388 that I sold to get a digi001.

Going to get interesting!

A while back I posted a build report for the White Light clone I build for my buddy Demian in Great Falls. Well, when he came over around then to pick it up, he left two other pedals for future repair, one of which was this Strymon Deco V1, a sweet gift from his wife that never saw much stage use on account of the bassist kicking the Ø knob and most of its shaft off. Turns out Strymon sells not only the knob, but also their 10k pots. Awesome! Disassembly was a little complex but the replacement process absolutely was not. This is a fun pedal and since Demian runs a W/D/W rig I'm really curious to hear it in action if and when it lands on his board. I had Pumpkinhead on and man, it's even better than I remember.

For some reason I committed to building all the main bluesbreaker variants available through PedalPCB. Except the OG, which I really wanted to make on vero or perf. I finally finished the last one today and am free of this self imposed project purgatory. I’ll do a combo build report soon but most of them sound the same and I don’t think I like bluesbreaker circuits anymore 🤣

Please don’t say anything if I missed any variants.

I got some super old logic plug-in modules and they have a bunch of lm301ap, which I harvested, it also has tons of caps, diodes and ge diodes but then I went to ebay and it seems like, since it is really old technology is valuable, so now I don't know if I should keep harvesting or sell it, what would you do ?

Inverted Cross Audio 909, a souped up YATS. Tbh the turbo (or originally "Keeley") switch is kinda subtle (just a bit more gain and less bottom end), and for the clipping switch I could be happy with just the LED (or even no clipping) options. Sorta wish I would have socketed the 1N4148's so I could try something else there, but it's already kinda choked sounding with that vs. the other two options, so maybe germanium is out of the question anyway. Still useable by fiddling with the other controls.

Octave is fun to play with, especially the neck pickup. My bass ran out of batteries so I'll have to fix that before I can really try the clean blend option - on paper I feel like this should be a pretty good bass pedal.

The look also came out pretty good, and I kinda like the bigger form factor too even though it's not necessary at all. Only complaint really is that the tone control is wired backwards, for whatever reason, so it's more of a "filter" control. I used one of the szukalski Simple Relay boards again here, highly recommended.

I guess this is technically what's off my work bench. 16" hi hats are done... probably. Fully lathed top and burnished Turkish finish for the bottom. I'm going to let them rest and play them a bit before making any changes. I might end up partially lathing the bottom, but they're already pretty thin.

I swear I'm working on a fuzz demo, just want to do the circuit justice in less than four minutes.

Actually I'd rather hear a demo of these tuned hi hats. Who care about fuzzes........... :p
