I am in agreement that there are always improvements to be made, but we have to weigh them up against the implementation cost.

In addition, whilst this is a business keeping Mr PPCB with an abundance of ivory back scratchers, it should also have some element of enjoyment. I'm sure there are enough parts which aren't fun, and we don't want our dear leader (dear dealer?) to run out of steam until his poor old hands and eyes can trace no more.

Personally, I see two areas which could be useful:
  • Improving the documentation process for Mr PPCB (Robert sounds too informal for someone I haven't shared a beverage with) so he finishes his PCB design, hits a button and it spits out a doc. Less time spent on docs, more time on more boards (and ivory back scratching). --> Faster build docs (and hopefully happier work days)
  • A unified place to have all these nifty notes and build tips. Substitutions, biasing tips, gotchas, all these amazing things which exist in the depths of the forum search function. This could be as simple as a link from the product on the PPCB website to the Wiki. Of course, then someone has to moderate the Wiki.. but some people love the illusion of power which moderation gives, and there could be community volunteers for that. --> Better quality build information
 
The values are printed on the PCB. And now voltages too.

Drilled enclosures are available directly from Tayda and there are a ton of drill templates being uploaded both on the website and the forum.

This forum is the best!

Any question you have will be answered here by several expert builders. And you will learn a ton in the process.
I've been on this forum for a year or so IIRC and I've leeched so much knowledge it's unbelievable.

And the contests. I was able to buy 60 potentiometers with a gift code I won here for doing absolutely nothing. Barely posted any builds. All I do is ask newbie questions and clutter threads with "jokes". Yet I got a sizeable supply of pots for free.

And people here are so kind and patient with their time.

Without the forum, PedalPCB would be less user friendly and still great. Let's not forget how spoiled we are that so many effects boards and utility boards are available for reasonable prices.

I just wish shipping and import fees didn't exist :)
 
Not being defensive or anything, but this is a real question, does anyone else really read all the stuff Aion and MadBean's puts in their build docs?
I've stopped printing out the whole bundle. I just need the drill template, the BOM, schematic, that's about it.
And I consider myself a noob having only started building pedals in March.
 
All 4 voting choices fall under “what would make this site more newb friendly”

That’s good, if that is your intended market.

Ultimately, all that’s really needed is 1) a BOM 2) a legible silkscreen on the board and 3) a circuit diagram for troubleshooting.

With limited resources, I wouldn’t re-prioritize anything.

I don’t even print pedalpcb build docs anymore. By doing so many new releases without docs and with the values printed on the boards I’ve saved a ton of trees and ink. For newbs it’s a must, but once you got the hang of things just pulling up a pdf on my phone when needed does the trick.

I do. I often read them for stuff I'm just curious about and not planning to build. But I don't print them. Im not a maniac 😂
 
I enjoy Aion's write ups but tend to read his "tracing journal" blogs more for that. I like the history and revisions and context and all that. But that
doesn't really factor into my building workflow.

My exposure to DIY pedal building was here and PedalPCB boards, I guess I'm used to it. Personally, I'd much rather @Robert push out more releases at the expense of becoming a "blogger".

Having said that, I love @szukalski's idea of having dedicated Pedal thread repositories where mods, gotcha's, tricks and tips can be crowdsourced rather than rely on Robert.
 
The boards have the values on them already, it only takes a few minutes to jot them down on a piece of paper. The schematic idea is great but so far they’re available when asked for. I would say, and from experience, newbs aren’t going to know what to do with a schematic. I’m impressed at the speed at which Robert is able to put out projects that are viable the day you get it.

Robert is super easy to talk to, if you need something let him know. This community is fantastic, just start a help thread. I’ve not been around here long, but I’ve been building for 10 years now, this place is very engaging and fun. I would urge you to take it all in and find the parts that are helpful.
