What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

I have been eyeballing the Moogs for a long time but the prices are insane. I wish I had bought one 15 years ago…
Like when they were closed out for $99?
Yeah. me too.
I have had the LPF in my sweetwater cart for close to a year. But the pastfx version used isn't much more.
Curious how you get on with the behringer.

I'll just share my order from Oleg/sovcom and a limited edition enclose from lovemyswitches! As with any sparkle enclosure I've gotten from anywhere it's gotta be lit up to look special.
Still waiting on my tayda order before I can put anything together, and my replacement daisy seed :(

Ha! I also received my LMS orange sparkle enclosure and Oleg order today. The orange sparkle is much nicer than I expected and now I’m afraid to use it. Classic.

From Oleg, some D9B, D310 (looks like about 250mv vf on my TC1), and neat old LEDs in metal can/glass package. Not really sure what I’ll do with the latter; they’re very dim, but may be fun to use as clipping diodes or as as indicators for pedals I only plan to use while stargazing so’s not to ruin my night vision.

Oooh I've been meaning to buy some of those LEDs for ages

Ugh. The unit I got has an insanely high noise floor. Sweetwater is gonna send me a new one and they didn’t even ask for this one back… 🤔
I think I've read bad things about the Behringer unit, hopefully the second one is better. I assume it's a ton of SMD parts, so fixing the noise issue yourself is not really reasonable?

Yeah I don’t think I want to tackle that. I hope my unit is defective because the demos didn’t sound noisy at all. But then those were preproduction units… we will see. I can return it if the second unit is also noisy. I really should just go for the Asheville one…

I had only heard complaints that they had redrawn the circuit so they could use a cheaper BBD 🤷‍♂️ but if there's excess noise, that's a bit unfortunate.

Yeah it’s definitely a different sound. You can tell from the demos. Some day I’ll open up this unit to see if I can spot anything wrong.

Been an interesting couple of days in my mailbox.

I'll start with my favorite topic, pickups..... :p

I got a box from Adam Asmus from Tonehatch pickups.

As most of you know, I'm a bit of a strat-a-holic. But that being said, I've been trying to find/configure my ideal strat bridge pickup.
I've tried just about everything out there from super pricey boutiques to AliExpress. But I've always struggled with balancing all 3 pickups on a vintage style strat.

So I talked to Adam about building me a custom pickup.
My spec's were:
1) Had to have more pronounced mids
2) Absolutely no ICE PICK trebles
3) Enough output to balance well with the other pickups.
4) Still sounds like a Strat pickup

I wanted to try an idea I had bouncing around in my head. And he always obliges, which is one reason I love working with him.

I asked him to wind me the following:
A5/A2 magnets (A5 or the 3 wound strings and A2 for 3 unwound). Flat Poles/
Plain enamel wire, 42AWG. I told him to cram as much 42awg as he could on the bobbin, which should yield a DCR between 7.6k-8.6k.
The first prototype he sent me was freaking perfect!
It's now in my white strat.
I had him wind me 3 more exactly the same. And that's what showed up in the mail this week.

He definitely got the bobbin full!

I put one in my Red strat, one is going in my Gold and the other in my Honeyburst.

And last but not least, @jcpst had a post about building the PPCB Rain Coat. And it inspired me to pull mine and out play it.
I forgot how much I liked it. It's basically a muff variant.

I mentioned this to @Robert and this showed up in my mailbox yesterday......

For those of you that don't know this, @Robert used to be "BuggFX" and sold pedals. This was his take on the Muff in a large format Muffin box.
So, yah, not gonna try stuffing this in a 1590b.... :ROFLMAO: .

It was the perfect timing. I just had to drive to downtown Orlando to get an MRI. It was a long drive home through Saturday Memorial Day traffic and I was feeling like shit from the IV contrast they gave me. I was also just feeling shit period. I am SO OVER cancer, sigh, but I still gotta do what I gotta do to keep it from killing me. It was the perfect thing to lift me up. THANK YOU ROBERT!

Not in the mail, but...

I was looking at these this past Gristmess, but couldn't justify getting one even though they were only CAD16;
I thought, "Well, maybe I'll come across one at a garage-sale this coming summer" — which meant:
I'll never see one again whether in stores or broken in a rubbish-tip.

Wife insisted we hit some garage-sales yesterday, I had completely forgotten about this toy gun ... and low, behold, for a Twoonie!

If you don't know what it is:

The white bulb on top lights up different colours when you pull the trigger.

I'm really NOT into "fart humour", I'm not Victorian about the topic — rather simply unamused when, for example, other band-members walk over to the drummer and drift one then walk away leaving the drummer gagging (and/or all other band-members in their wake). 🤨

However, some time ago, 2021, somebody thought the world needed a "fart-pedal". It had adjustments for wet<>dry and a volume knob. That's it.
It failed on many levels. It would cut out your instrument's signal while it ran through one of its iterations. Anyone who has one of these on their pedal-bored [sic] should be able to (at the very least) choose to have it run parallel with the instrument-signal, or cut out the instrument-signal, or some other options.

I decided I could do better.

Then I found someone who did do better — Pauleo1214 made a flatulent multi-PCB pedal that not only could illicit rectumnal noises that were were dare I say "musical", AS WELL the pedal could be tuned to useable effect(s), unlike the commercial abomination's one-sick pony.

So, I guess I'm not entirely immune to these puerile pedal-pontifications, as years ago I did pick up a foam-rubber dog-dew with the intent of making a shitty little pedal — long before Dr No pushed out his two turds. 💩

The circuit destined for the dog-doodoo was to be some sort of lo-fi thing that would transform your signal into a fecal fuzz, and that is still the aim, but I think it will be now combined with something akin to Paul's Coockoo, as well as with the garage-sale find — a fart pedal that in my opinion is the real poop.

Probably need a 1590DD for the load of crap I intend to pile together.

Let's see, I'll need:
a blender circuit, can use the Simple JFET Buffer for that. I've got the SMD version
Underminer
Procrastinator
Chalumeau
LoFi-nator [❌ out of stock] so maybe sub in a perf of Escobedo's LoFoMoFo with EHX DirtyBird ✔
Fart-noise generator ✔ Garage-sale find
Fake-poo to adorn pedal ✔ Novelty-shop find

Seems I've got everything, nothing else to GAS for.

Oh, maybe add the Passinwind Preamp! ✔
