Seriously… I was playing with it last night and the clips are annoying… I guess I’m going to set up a dedicated breadboard for it so I can just pop some In There… I have about 50 germaniums i breadboarded to record HFE and leakage back in January.. rechecked a bunch of them against what I recorded and the numbers are vastly different… Now I don’t know which ones to trust… The DCA is showing they have much more gain… some I had showing 72 HFE are showing g in the DCA they are 117 HFE
If you were testing them in a cool or colder area in January, say an unconditioned basement or garage, that area would now be much warmer, temperature affects Germanium.

IIRC the Atlas measures at a higher current than other testers. I know it was an issue with the Klon diodes when they were measured.

Germanium transistors are little snowflakes. You so much as breathe on them and the gain as leakage go up. I handle them with tweezers and let them rest a few minutes

yes when i breadboarded them all I let them all sit for 15 minutes before taking readings and it was quiete cold in the garage at the time.... im picking them up with tweezers and measuring with the dca75 too,, almost all of them are measuring 110 hfe+

Are the stock pickups in those guitars so bad that you had to immediately replace them?
Asking because I might go for one of those Tokai LPs but I don't have the budget for new pickups
Not at all, the stock Tokai pickups are actually quite good. Just not my tastes. They're a bit more "modern" sounding. Whereas my preference is for more "vintage" sounding pickups that correspond to my...um...."vintage". heh

Well, Rock'n'August is finally over!

In the midst of last week's event, I went parts-hunting for my friend's Truckustom build, tried to find wheels and tail-lights for his build
and instead I found something I've been looking for:

Found it as you see it above, 1958 Edsel Grill & Hood!

I'm really glad I didn't have to remove it from a car that could be restored, so no guilt whatsoever.
There is an Edsel hiding behind it, but it was an intact '59. EDIT: upon closer look at the pic, another almost complete '58 — missing the centre-bit that could've been salvaged from the one I bought

The Grill and maybe the hood (cut down to size) will go on my Model A. (sorry Model A-grill that I already have, I'm going custom)

Now I just need to find a Model A.

With the weeklong car event done, I can finally get back to pedals! While I was busy with cars the following came in some time late last week, but I didn't get it out of the mailbox 'til yesterday (Sunday).

Time to build peda...

"Hello? You've sealed the deal on the one-owner stock '68 Nova and we've gotta get it from another province a day's drive away?
Yes, I'll be ready by 10am...

Blue box day.. some designs from the boneyard.. and a handy board for rocking before boxing.

@finebyfine honoured us when they shared a nice little board for the same purpose, and it's become essential to my build process (ie. below):

I took it a step further, adding a center hole (because sometimes we toggle), connectors for IO (rocking before you box), and footswitch / LED holes so you can finish everything outside the enclosure and just "pop it in". Eager to try this out!

Some people expressed their dislike for the white washers you normally see used in footswitches. So I decided to buy metal ones to try see how they look, as they’re pretty cheap. They’re also thinner than your normal plastic white washer.
I'm not sure I quite understand the aversion to white washers for foot switches. But I've learned to avoid them because I'm such a people pleaser and can't manage the disapproval of my peers...... :ROFLMAO:
