What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

If you take a look at the build documents, that's also very well done. Especially the drill template which includes everything in millimeters which should make it very simple to use Tayda's drill service.

Ya their build docs are awesome. I love the detail and the drill template. As soon as I get some extra cash I am going to buy this board. I like the layout of this one, it leaves plenty of room for artwork.

I usually do this before I start a build, it’s nice that he puts it together!

Woohoo!
Proceeds from the Amplified Parts/AES coupon code....
The Genalex's have been in my amp since about noon cooking in. Been playing a bit here and there.

They're better sounding to me than the JJ KT77's I had in there yesterday. But the difference is so slight it could be all in my head.
Certainly not 2x the price difference. Shoulda just stuck with the JJ's, hard to go wrong with JJ's for any new production tube needs.
I've used their 12AX7's, 12AU7s, 12AT7's, 6V6's and 6L6's. They've all sounded superb.

Tomorrow the EL34's are going in my VHT D-Fifty for a spin.

What amp are you using these for? I've had KT77s in my 2203 for ages and absolutely love them.
This one...

And possibly.......this one. The VHT is either going to wind up with the EL34's or the JJ KT77's after I've had a chance to play them both for a while. It's undocumented but it's supports both EL34's or KT77's with a slight bias change in place of the stock 6L6's.

What do you like about them?
I feel like there’s more body. The 800 can be pretty mids (and high-mids) forward. Compared to EL34s, I thought it brought some more bass and chilled out the highs a bit. But, those are the only tubes I’ve used for a long time, I may not be remembering the EL34s accurately.

EDIT: It is definitely not woofy or a bass heavy amp. It still sounds like an 800, just a bit more low end and some restraint on the high-mids.

What year is your 2203? I had an '84 2204 for a long time that someone had stuck EL34s into but would have had 6550s originally. I ended up modding the bias resistors for the EL34s. Never tried anything else in it and I sold it several years ago
