It's a great book. It's really helped me to understand a lot more about recording and sound in general. I'm about halfway through it now and in all honesty it's more of a "how to be a bedroom recordist" than a manual on Portastudios so far.

When I can, I always pop by the local L&M to see what pedal deals they might have, and every once in a while I score a pretty good deal.

No pedals this last Thursday, but there was this thing:




Didn't have time to check it out, and I thought the price must be a mistake: C$145.

Went in on Friday and it was still there (-32ºC, maybe not many customers?) and the staff hadn't realised their mistake in pricing it. So I checked it out.


All knobs and pushbuttons on the front panel work. Didn't test the headphone jack, CD-IN, nor any of the extras on the back such as the footswitch, DI out etc.

SS power with a SS channel and a hybrid tube/SS 2nd channel with onboard comp; 300w>4Ω, 450w>2Ω. Heavy as ... ! However...
Not bad for CAD150 all in! Less than any of the used pedals I'd looked at!

Now I just need to
- build a BFM or Greenboy cab to go with it,
- find a band to play in so I can play out with this thing,
- work out at the gym so I can lift it.

My 3lb EA Micro amp will make a great back-up for this thing should it ever release the magic smoke on a gig...

The handle tells you how heavy it is. It looks like it's had the crap stretched out of it.l!

The circuits should be something complementary to each other, 'cause look how well the colours go together:

TOTAL 50s vibe, so maybe a slapback echo and tremolo?

I wonder I'd there's any decent transistors or anything in there to harvest? At least I know I've found the perfect enclosure for my vanity fuzz

Small update to this. We had a letter yesterday from NI Power to let us know our electricity is being turned off on Wednesday from 0900-1700. This pole is in the field behind our house so at least I know what this is for. Would have been nice if they'd told us instead of just leaving it at our back gate. Looks like I need to keep hunting for a fuzz enclosure
