My dad used to have a technics from the 60s. It was a great record player. After changing the belt twice he gave up on it…
I still have mine from the mid-70's... direct drive

New to me Technics SL-QD33 and some Sony speakers that I got on the cheap

I only got four hours sleep last night (damn cats and dogs) and when I looked at this I thought for a second that it was full of soap bubbles, lmao....

Man. I had ~20 years ago I had a late 70s Sony I bought for pennies at a yard sale that was an AMFM/LP/8 track player/recorder. You could dub you records onto blank 8 tracks. It sounded absolutely glorious. Weighed close to 40 pounds, I swear.
Unfortunately, between the time my soon to be wife moved into my 1br studio and my new wife moved out of said studio a few months later, the left channel died.
It got tossed in the combination/purge but not before investigation. Inside, there were 2 potted bricks with a dozen or so leads on each for the preamp/amp of each channel. I couldn't find any info on the then still small www.
I came across one listed online about a decade ago and was able to track down info then. Turns out those bricks were some proprietary class A preamps.
Damn. To be fair, I didn't know a dime about electronics at the time and we had boxes lining both walls of the apartment to the ceiling. But I'd love to have that unit again.
