Who is the Rock & Roll star who helped NASA land on an asteroid?

I used to see him on the NASA channel before I stopped watching it when it went from science to editorials......

1 of my favorite rips of peeps 'general knowledge' same guy who's now working on landing on small bodies and determining what chemistry various object have so we can either live on it or pull an Independence Day driveby resource grab is same man who cooked up Fat Bottom Girls and Tie Your Mother Down.... all the living members have Master's if not doctorates.. Freddie was in the performing arts section so.. well he REALLY needed that degree ;) Yet another stamp on history of a modern Da Vinci...

I read a story about a guitarist who's dad was mocking him about becoming a pro, his dad saw a guitar-magazine on the table with May on the cover and said something like —
Dad: "This guy sure looks like some rocket-scientist"
Budding Guitarist: "Actually dad..."

Wish I could remember who the guitarist was and where I read that annecdote.

Meanwhile...

...And she tells everybody that I've got my PhD
But it stands for Post Hole Digger
It ain't exactly a degree...
