Why does nobody use these outtie DC jacks?

I still use them on occasion, as I bought a billion of them at one point--especially in a build that's tight on internal space--but I prefer the neatness/size of some other options
 
I've switched over to these outies about six builds ago and won't go back to the innies. As already pointed out, more room inside and able to pull every thing out quickly without desoldering.

I suggest sticking with the Cliff brand as they are quality and the nut and threads actually work together as opposed to the cheap innies. I built Tube Amps for years and got to know Cliff products well, their 1/4" jacks never failed me. I started using them when I wanted an ungrounded jack. Try them!

I've had a few builds corrupted by the less expensive "trash-no-doubties", the cheaper ones are so rubbish they'd put just about anyone off of "outties".

HEED TUBE DUDE's WARNING — BUY QUALITY.
 
I use them all the time. If you care about the fact that they stick out an additional millimeter or two (which I definitely don’t), it becomes irrelevant as soon as you plug two audio cables on either side of it.

But having inordinately strong opinions about inconsequential topics is what the internet is all about, so who am I to stand in the way of an ‘innie vs. outie death match’… 🤷‍♀️
 
I actually like the cheap outie jacks from Tayda. They're so cheap I stocked up a long time ago and ordered double just to get extra nuts to use as spacers. If I'm building something nice I'll use more expensive jacks but the Tayda outies are my default.
 
Very shallow (and this goes for "innies" too) but I don't like that the plug is not centered in the housing lol

But they have their uses. I still slap em in stuff every now and then if space is at a premium. but typically in utility type things that don't really get seen much. For instance I recently put together a little AC>DC rectifier/buck converter into a 1590a but the converter's just large enough that innie style jacks wouldn't have fit (not comfortably anyhow). But it's just an ugly bare enclosure that stays unseen beneath my board so it's whatever
 
I have used them in a few builds mostly for ease of potential troubleshooting but have rarely ever had to take advantage of that ability. I had to use one in the Shallow Water because of the space constraints. Frankly I just like the look of the smaller lumbergs and being able to use the power splitter PCBs when I add relay switching
 
I also use white washers with them. I've found that they are the jack wide to use a stock washer, and have to ream the washer a bit to make a fit, which is kind of pain.
 
When I started building kits from byoc around 2015-2016 they were common to be the jack in the kit. I guess I was used to them but always thought they looked kinda corny. I bought a bunch on my first tayda order for like next to nothing and used them on everything for years. One day I got clowned for using them and never looked back. I appreciate the motivation that I received and upped my game.
 
I use the knock-off Lumberg jacks because I can never remember how to wire the lugs on the outies. 🙃 The real question is, can you use an outie with top-mounted jacks on a 1590B?

Same with me when i started with Musikding kits. Now i am into 1590B and top jacks and Lumbergs, so my stock of them don‘t go away.
 
I use them, the cheap Tayda ones seem very reliable (unlike their cheap small DC jacks), and no desoldering for taking the pedal out of the enclosure is a huge plus for me (the main reason I use them).
