Now let me buy 30 one knob pedals to do 30 different sounds.
We're being mined for our attention and our value as human beings amounts to a singular view. But it's cool, none of them will ever compare to thisMainly it feels like all the gear is made for wannabe social media guitar influencers aura farming dopamine for likes on 30 second reels
The cynical take would be that Lovetone is coming back to squeeze the 90s guitar nerds for all the nostalgia left in their wallets. The realistic take is that Valco has been pretty busy making money off Lovetone stuff and now Behringer is about to as well. Dan probably wants to be making that money himself. I do hope he brings those products back better than the originals because I think that's where EHX and Marshall dropped the ball with their re-releases and where Boss somewhat got it right with the Waza stuff. All these new releases lately having me feeling like the gear industry is lost. First up is the whole artist signature models. Joe B has like a million signature models of pedals, amps and guitars for a guy who claims gear doesn't matter. So he gets a guitar and amp release. Fender releasing a non fender parts guitar for Tom Morello is major clown energy.
Why is lovetone coming back? Who is that for? All the people who would have used that 30 years ago are using digital stuff that's way less musical and convoluted. The JHS muff 2 that sounds like, a muff, is very on brand. The strymon Fairfax also feels like every boutique drive the past decade, like a wet duck with a piezo on its ass after taco Tuesday.
Mainly it feels like all the gear is made for wannabe social media guitar influencers aura farming dopamine for likes on 30 second reels. I'm officially in my "I hate gear" phase I guess. This is why there are no new rock bands, just whinny emo, indie atmospheric noise nonsense.
Hold on dude wampler just released an OCD with a 3 band EQ.All these new releases lately having me feeling like the gear industry is lost. First up is the whole artist signature models. *better amp and/or pickupshot take: if you have an "always on" pedal you just need a better amp
I understand this so well. Pedal building for me was about understanding circuits because I was tired of being lied to by boutique builders, and I wanted to try all the things I either couldn't afford or find. In my pursuit of exploration I found that I already had my sound years ago.Hot take: A lot of tone chasers already know what they like, but are just hoping something better is out there.
After building about 100 pedals, I’ve gone full circle. I put a stock rat back on my board after so my dirt pedals and thought “oh, this is doing what I want”. After trying a dozen octave-up circuits, I put a green ringer back on my board. I replaced my synthy envelope filter (boss syb-3 mode 8) with an ugly face, which probably the biggest difference, but still does a similar thing.

What about Sabbath and Queen? Treble boosters. A lot of metal use an 808 as always on mid booster because the marshall can't do it by itselfhot take: if you have an "always on" pedal you just need a better amp
What if you’re one of those always-on Phaser guys?hot take: if you have an "always on" pedal you just need a better amp

I had that amp! Phaser didnt work
I had one in the 90s and the phaser worked great! Sadly the punk band I was playing with wanted none of it. : (I had that amp! Phaser didnt workone of the best pedal platforms ever though, thanks to its parametric mids.
