Not even close.
This is the sort of thing that's built super cheap and aimed at STARWARS fans to buy as a cash-grab, then end up in a land-fill months later.
All of those plastic parts would warp and yellow while the paint chipped off into your brew, plus it would be a bacteria funhouse in all of those little crevasses and corners..

*Sorry I got a little carried away there, but R2D2's one of my favorite robots and I don't like seeing it (him/her?) turned into garbage.

My wife and I have a french press and it makes great coffee, if you're okay with only a couple cups at a time. The coffee has a different mouthfeel compared to the more convenient methods. The best way I can describe it is smoother, slightly heavier, and more oily than using a paper filter in a drip machine. The issue with grounds getting into your cup are less prevalent if you grind your own coffee with a burr grinder at a coarse enough setting to avoid getting through the strainer.

We enjoy the french press but we use a drip machine on the daily out of convenience. Some machines are better than others, but we've been very happy with our relatively inexpensive Cuisinart drip coffee maker.

I'm interested in hearing what types of coffees people enjoy the most. The best cup of coffee I've ever had was when we visited Jamaica and had fresh roasted Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee. It's stupid expensive to get here in the states, so we ended up finding a close alternative that was more affordable, Papua New Guinea coffee. This coffee has also become a bit pricy lately ($15-$20/lb.) and I'm ashamed to admit that we've succumbed to brewing Amazon's Medium Roast Columbia whole bean coffee. Despite how you feel about Amazon, Jeff Bezos and his phallus-shaped rockets, it's pretty damn decent coffee at ~$16 for 2lb.

What do you guys enjoy?

I use a French press on the weekends mostly, lately though we have a ton If Panera’s around me and they have a coffee deal where it’s 8.99 a month for “unlimited” coffee so I usually grab a 32oz ice coffee minus the ice on my way into work. Add it to my yeti with ice. It’s not the greatest coffee but it’s not the worst and it’s cheap. Last year they told me I drank 394 cups do coffee….
 
I had a flat-mate that used a coffee-grinder to mulch his weed before smoking it, brought whole new meaning to "making a pot of coffee".


Camp coffee — boiled water in a bowl with coffee grounds in the bottom — gentle swirling, then let the grounds sink to the bottom while it's cooling and then drink until you get to the grit...


Best beans I ever got was from an old guy in HK, roasting in his little shop since 1954. Alas, though his sons help him out now, I don't think they have any intention of continuing the family business. Besides that, I'm no longer in HK.

It is spelled "Peet's" now, isn't it. :P And, yeah, quite like many of their roasts. Cafe Domingo is a pretty nice blend too.

This is my friend, Justin. I met him doing pit orchestra for West Side Story. Unbelievably good cellist, next level bow hair wizard, but might be an even better roaster. I drink nothing else and I've converted several others. No frills, just a frequently changing list of organic single origin and a few excellent blends, I usually stick to the single origin and "roasters choice" when I'm feeling extra posh. He'll roast to your specs, I like his lighter approach but if you're espressoing, he'll cook any of them further.

Favorite blend - "pops"
