My normal work flow is to order a couple boards, spreadsheet their components and then place an order for what ever I’m missing.
Recently though, the generosity bug has spread and thanks to @fig @Robert & @MichaelW I have a plate full of boards in the works. Thought I would change things up and try to tackle them by populating what I have on hand and then creating a missing parts order.
Starting with our good friends the resistance… so far it looks like I’m only missing 2M resistors. I’m sure I’ll need some caps, FS’s, Jacks, enclosures, knobs…. Stomboxparts/LMS orders coming up.
There are also two bread board projects off to the side. I’ve been tweaking @vigilante398 amazing Black Eye layout to lower the gain a wee bit and let a wee bit more low end through. And, with this cool Hv power supply, which allows you to dial in the voltage, I’m pretty excited to dial up the perfect combo for my rig. It will also allow me to put some space between power and audio and see if that helps the oscillation and if not I have several buffer options to work with. I love the way the black eye sounds at low gain (with a 12AT7) and at high gain, just wanted to give myself a little bit more low gain clean range (this is the “Glassy-ist” sounding pedal I’ve ever played when clean) and without all the super high gain can let a little more low end through. When it’s done I’m going to house it in one of the cool Hammond slanted enclosures. Originally I was going to include a delay board inside but I’m loving the DMM build so much that I might just skip that. No way that’s going to fit in there, but a magnetron might - which by the way really does come close to mimicking the DMM for a PT2399 chip that is.
I guess this is the normal progression of the build addicted. Build a ton of boards, then start tinkering with the ones you love the most to get them to perfection for your own rig.
Also hoping to return the generosity where I can and pay it forward. Thanks forum dudes this place rules.
