Game Changer - 8 Bucket Brigade Chips!?????

I really love the sound of my Boss DM2-W. The first pedal I ever bought was a DM2 when they were the state of the art delay pedal. The Waza version is a beautiful thing. BUT... the Boss buffer kills my sound. Well, when I say kills I really mean affects it enough to be annoying. I fear that this pedal may suffer the same problem, seeing that it's Boss. I rarely plug in the DM2-W because of the buffer. It's a damn shame because the pedal sounds so good otherwise.

I use very few effects on my board despite having hundreds lying around my office. I'm very sensitive to my core sound being altered by pedals when in standby. I wish I was one of those plug-in-a-bunch-of-Boss-pedals-and-it's-fine kind of players but I'm not! I'm a total tone wanker. I'm a good person otherwise. Mostly.

This new thing is still tempting though...

You’re totally speaking my language. Most of my favorite effects are boss circuits but the buffers just don’t play nice with my amp. If it alters my core tone why the pedal is bypassed in any way, or adds hiss and white noise, then it’s no beuno. Pretty much every boss pedal I’ve tried does this. Fortunately, the diy world gives me most of my favorite boss circuits that are true bypass. Except for the DD-3 but, that’s what a true bypass looper is good for.

Thank you!! I get told off by people who tell me I can't hear the buffer - I'm just being a snob. But I can! I spend so much time getting my amps to sound as good as they can, my pedals to sound right, my leads to not crackle... I know when it doesn't sound right.

The weirdest thing for me is that of all the delays I've tried the one with the best sounding core tone - ie the sound of my guitar before the delays are added - is the TC Electronics Flashback. It's the cheapest delay I have. I have the Flashback Mini and I love it. On my board right now is a UA Starlight Delay which is pretty good for preserving my core tone and also has some beautiful sounding delays.

I've had many, many delays...

I gotta say I never noticed the Boss buffer affecting my tone, I should make a side by side comparison.
