Mojotone is selling pedal kits now

Ya all these companies (JHS, Warm Audio, Mojotone) are a little TOO on the nose. Somehow I feel like someone will eventually get sued. It will probably be Mike Matthews suing someone for encroaching on his big muff territory. My money is on Mike.

I think it’s a great way to have a soft entry point to DIY pedals.

You get the satisfaction of building a working pedal first up, and the parts you need to solder are fairly forgiving. You still have to do something, but the failure rate is going to be much lower.

We may not be the market for this, but it’s pretty cool for those starting out. Think about young kids getting Duplo before they graduate to Lego!

I think it’s a brilliant idea. Price point is very attractive too.

My first build was a muroidea sold by stompboxparts as a “Rat Kit”. Seems like maybe we accept some trading on pedal names in DIY where we would frown on it in finished pedals.

Selling Rat kit = cool
Selling Rat pedal = not cool

But if you sell the rat pedal with the wiring harness unplugged, it’s a kit! Right??

I guess my rat kit didn’t come pre-lettered in Rat-font, so I get that’s more egregious.

I like that the fonts/labels have a nod to the original circuit. Maybe they could get sued for trade dress or something, I dunno.
