Wampler Germanium Tumnus!!

I was Gobsmacked when I asked Robert about this 12 hours ago, I couldn't believe Brian did this the first time around, not impressed!!!
I was a Wampler fan & own nearly a dozen of his thru hole pedals, this leaves a bad taste in my mouth!!!
Thank God I have never & won't purchase the Tumnus or Deluxe of old!!!

Did he ever claim it had the magic diodes in the past, or did people just automatically assume it had Germanium diodes? I don’t see why people are upset about it if they liked the way it sounds— it’s been advertised as a modified take on the Klon circuit, not a 1:1 replica, right?

I don't remember Brian ever saying it had the same diode and he's gone on record multiple times saying that if they release a clone of a circuit he doesn't feel comfortable unless it's modified/tweaked/improved. I've seen a bunch of instances of people preferring the Tumnus over other klones or even the original. It won that Anderton's blind contest. People really shouldn't be surprised or upset. Brian is like the least shady guy in the pedal business.

According to the original Tumnus product page:

"We aren’t going to sit here and claim it has magical parts, or we sourced out 60 year old diodes that make it perfect, but we are going to say that during our research we looked at everything available and then only used the parts that Brian chose to replicate that amazing tone."

Wampler has painstakingly and faithfully reproduced that magical tone in all its glory in an unbelievably small package, and its name is Tumnus.

Did i miss the fine print in between on this!???
If he got it right, Why release this Germanium Version???
'' You can take that to the Bank ''

My 2 Cents

You Members have to realize that I only want what's best for you Guy's when building these circuits & when I see something that is taking advantage of your hard earned money, I have to voice my opinion.
It 's purely your right to agree or disagree, Don't take it so personally.
As fig says ''Now go Build Something''

Has someone taken it personally in this thread? Seems quite civil to me.

And that is all I ask as it can turn feral just as quick!
This was just my message in General on the Forum on other subject matter.
I've been reported numerous times for saying something taken out of context.
Even Chuck has been reported, it gets crazy when you see that sort of Stuff happen!

The Arc Klone used Schottky diodes, and it was a TGP darling for quite awhile. The diode arrangement was well-known at the time.

The Archer didn’t use Schottky, then it secretly did,
Then the Ikon was released and didn’t,
Then the “Jeff Beck” silver one was released that didn’t (for an upcharge),
Then the Clean where it didn’t matter,
And finally the Select where it doesn't doesn’t doesn’t doesn’t doesn’t doesn’t.

Las report was Bill Finnegan of Klon was doing a new version with a New style of Diode that was supposedely replicating the tone of the Original???

So, he didn’t so they were unicorn tears, but he didn’t not say they were, too. I love Brian’s donations to diy, pedals, and teachings, but I do find that shady.

I don’t know, it seems easy to tell Wampler deviated from the formula with the Tumnus. Even without much technical knowledge, one could hear that he injected more bass and lopped off the edginess of the drive circuit (as with many Wampler drives).

I also think that, given the number one pitch for klones is the magical diodes, my default assumption was no hype = no unicorn tears.

Brian said the diodes he found are “electronically identical” I take that to mean any germanium diode with a .21 forward voltage. (Or whatever the fv of an OG klon has)

Why not use his own tools against him while we're at it :p :p :p

My take on any YAK has been rather reflexive of the hype: build it wrong on purpose and let tone reign. My favorite recent set is the combo from the exact scenario he outlines for the D+ modification (which I didn't much care for on the D+, interestingly)
GND -->|--D9E-->|--5817
GND 5817--|<--D9E--|<--
although my hasty chicken scratch has it
GND -->|--D9E-->|--5817
GND D9E--|<--5817--|<--
but I don't want to breadboard it again to find out…

I love Brian’s donations to diy, pedals, and teachings, but I do find that shady.

It is rather strange to see marketing wank coming from people respected in a community.

I don't think he made a wise decision releasing this Germanium version!
He has to deal with his decision for back then & now for the changes made.
Is the Deluxe next?

I think it was a wise move on wamplers part. give the people what they want. people wanna pay money for magic diodes?...... let em. I bought a tumnus deluxe 3 or 4 years ago before they changed the artwork and I love it. I use it with the gain cranked and run it into or after a rat or big muff.
