They must have taken the time to match them. I measured Vf at .260 and .261, which was both lower and closer than I expected.
Some of them were fine but some of them had a crazy high forward voltage for germanium.

I was Gobsmacked when I asked Robert about this 12 hours ago, I couldn't believe Brian did this the first time around, not impressed!!!
Wampler has painstakingly and faithfully reproduced that magical tone in all its glory in an unbelievably small package, and its name is Tumnus.According to the original Tumnus product page:
"We aren’t going to sit here and claim it has magical parts, or we sourced out 60 year old diodes that make it perfect, but we are going to say that during our research we looked at everything available and then only used the parts that Brian chose to replicate that amazing tone."

Tumnus - Wampler Pedals
There is one overdrive circuit to this day has been the most talked about, the most sought after, and the most mythical of them all. It’s big, it’s expensive, and it has certainly earned its place at the table. Wampler has painstakingly and faithfully reproduced that magical tone in all its...www.wamplerpedals.com
You Members have to realize that I only want what's best for you Guy's when building these circuits & when I see something that is taking advantage of your hard earned money, I have to voice my opinion.
It 's purely your right to agree or disagree, Don't take it so personally.

And that is all I ask as it can turn feral just as quick!Has someone taken it personally in this thread? Seems quite civil to me.
Las report was Bill Finnegan of Klon was doing a new version with a New style of Diode that was supposedely replicating the tone of the Original???The Arc Klone used Schottky diodes, and it was a TGP darling for quite awhile. The diode arrangement was well-known at the time.
The Archer didn’t use Schottky, then they secretly did,
Then the Ikon was released and didn’t,
Then the “Jeff Beck” silver one was released that didn’t (for an upcharge),
Then the Clean where it didn’t matter,
And finally the Select where it doesn't doesn’t doesn’t doesn’t doesn’t doesn’t.
Some of them just don’t work at all. It was frustrating as hell.I remember those…think I'm down to two or three and like you said, waaaaay big spread.
I don’t know, it seems easy to tell Wampler deviated from the formula with the Tumnus. Even without much technical knowledge, one could hear that he injected more bass and lopped off the edginess of the drive circuit (as with many Wampler drives). So, he didn’t so they were unicorn tears, but he didn’t not say they were, too. I love Brian’s donations to diy, pedals, and teachings, but I do find that shady.

I think it was a wise move on wamplers part. give the people what they want. people wanna pay money for magic diodes?...... let em. I bought a tumnus deluxe 3 or 4 years ago before they changed the artwork and I love it. I use it with the gain cranked and run it into or after a rat or big muff.I don't think he made a wise decision releasing this Germanium version!
He has to deal with his decision for back then & now for the changes made.
Is the Deluxe next?
