Best band of the 90’s…

I'm always genuinely surprised how many people like REM.

I feel like this question can only be personal. My vote is for Neurosis, His Hero is Gone, or portraits of past. They probably had the biggest musical impact on my taste, approach to playing music, and the subsequent opportunities I had to record and tour

Enter the 36 Chambers is the best album from the 90s though. That's objective fact.

Sublime, 311, Primus, Ween, Rage Against the Machine, Tool, Pantera, Dream Theater, Nine Inch Nails, etc, etc... too many to list.

Whether you like them or not, the defacto biggest band of the 90's was Radiohead

I’ll take 80s REM over the rest of their discography hands down. Basically everything before Out of Time.
You shouldn't have to though.

The gym that I climb at has been playing a few of their 90s hits regularly. When I comment about how much I hate the end of the world as we know it I sometimes get to meet new REM fans and should be used to this.

I realize I'm probably the odd one out here and need to accept that they're beloved by many.

This is how I feel about U2. I was in my mid 20s the first time I met someone who said they liked U2 and I thought they were joking. I thought U2 existed solely to make supermarket music

So many good bands from back then, so many... Veruca Salt, REM, Soul Asylum, Garbage, Blind Melon, Black Crowes, Blues Traveler, Fastball, Oasis...

One that I've only recently started to appreciate is the Presidents of the United States of America. Yeah they're goofy, but man, they rock and their guitar tones are insane.

Theirs was one of the first albums I ever picked up from a thrift store. I thought it was awesome. I was very disappointed when it turned out they were an exception and not the standard.

The Presidents of the USA are friggin sweet. I had all their tapes back when I was a kid in the 90s haha.

So they’re def on my best of list with Ween, 3EBs first album, Rusty (not sure if they were popular outside of Canada), Kyuss/QOTSA, 16 Horsepower, Smashing Pumpkins, GY!BE, Electric Wizard…there’s honestly too many 😂

they've been elected to rock our asses till midnight ... same, I shit on them back in the day for most of their hits being novelty songs about vagina but the songs held up over time, unlike the crash test dummies
