I'm still on the fence with the Spark. As appealing as it is, the lack of an f/x send/return and the smartphone app thing leave future me feeling unsettled.
Don’t sleep on the bassbreaker. It’s a great amp
P;lay around with it a bit - I find the same - that you have to hit the sweet spot. Most of the presets suck. I have the THR10C (older unit no bluetooth)
I forget but there's also a speaker stereo spread or something that it has to sound "full". On some presets etc it's awesome others not so much.
Agree, it's a bitchen little amp.Check out the monoprice 5W fender champ deal for a no frills, surprisingly decent little tube combo.
Care to share a schematic?I have built a wee 5F1 clone in a 1790NS enclosure, transformers are from an old tube radio. This thing rocks and I use it at band practise. Cost about $ 70 US I reckon.
Easy enough to build, no tone stack though, not that I miss it much at all. I gave it a bright switch though.
It's really built point to point after the original 5F1 schematic that google will throw up with the addition of a three position bright switch which adds a 100pf and 250pf mica cap across vol pot, middle position is stock no cap. The two other additions are negative feedback switchable from 22K (stock) to 10K to none. The boost switch adds a 25uF or 1 uF cathode bypass cap on cathode of first stage or none in middle position (stock).Care to share a schematic?

Plan on replacing the 12AX7, mine got very noisy after a few weeks. The TONE pot works better as C250K. If you need it to go louder in a big room, plug in a 2 x 12 cabinet, no joke! I posted the schematic on TDPRI.

Also I chose 0.033 coupling caps which will let a bit more bass through, simply because I had them floating around and I like the smell of Russian paper in oil caps.![]()
If I didn’t get the Origin 5 this would have been my choice....with your mods of course.
I've been really tempted by the origin 5c lately but I'm worried I'll be overly disappointed by the 8" speaker
Oh yeah absolutely. I've considered doing a custom build (and still might)... I could even use the TPA3118 module, it'd be a perfect fit.
Yes that's why it sounds so open and airy, organic and gluten free....Well done!
It's not just point-to-point, I see some "air circuits" in there. What a cute little output transformer.
I actually picked mine up from your recommendation and have since suggested it to others. Hope you get a new tube in there soon!Ya know, I must have jinxed myself by talking up my Monoprice 5W amp because I went to go play thru it a little while ago and no sound! Turns out the NOS 12AX7A I had in there blew one of the filaments. Still, 50+ years of operation & storage is not bad for a vacuum tube.
