4 knob distortion suggestion

I purchased a Rat kit from AION a couple years back, but my son decided not to work on it. It's been sitting doing nothing. I figured I could gently scrape the UV printing off and reuse the enclosure and parts for a different project. So, looking for some fun distortions that could fit in a 125B with 4 knobs (and a toggle). Suggestions taken.

Patrick

PS If someone wants to purchase the kit, it's all ready to go (I'll double check) and I have a couple extra opamps.

The first two four knobbers I can think of that I’ve enjoyed are the Son of Ben (benson) and Virgil (bad monkey)

Have you compared the pot-spacing yet?

Of all the drill templates I've DL'd, the PedalPCB 4-knob or 4-knob and switch isn't one of them...

Here's another thought, you could drill an extra hole or two and have a five knobber with extras such as the PedalPCB Blues Lawyer or Danae OD.
Offboard wire the middle knob in the bottom row to occupy the Aion's switch-space and then two more switch-holes to be drilled...

Your thread intrigued me, so I sussed out all the four-knobber dirt PedalPCB-boards that TTBOMK share the 5-Die () layout;
Here's the list:

  • Acer OD Altero Kaede
  • Bastion OD MojoHand Rook
  • Cadmium Fuzz Danelectro Nichols 1966 Fuzz
  • Cannon Fodder MkI Caroline Wave Cannon MkI
  • Cannon Fodder MkII Caroline Wave Cannon MkII
  • Colossal Muffin Fuzz MojoHand Colossus
  • Crystal Lettuce OD British Pedal Co Dumble Blackface OD Special
  • Dark Esbat Boost Black Country Customs TI-Boost
  • FreakZEQ Spontaneous Audio Devices Son of Kong
  • Golden Falk OD Colombo Plexi Breed
  • Jump Drive LPD Sixty8
  • Mouton Fuzz Fender Pelt 📍📍 Two switches in the middle
  • Peachtree OD Missing Link Hotlanta Dual Drive
  • Powder Blue OD King Tone Blues Power
  • Sandblaster Fuzz OKKO Holy Grit
  • Scabbard OD EAE Dagger
  • Scenario Preamp Cornerstone Gladio SC
  • Superflare Fuzz Diamond Fireburst
  • Synopsis OD Cornerstone Gladio +1 sw (📍📍) Extra switch down low, drill an extra hole.

The spacing may still be too different for the pots, but with the switch mounting the PCB you can always use lugged pots and offboard wire them if the PPCB drill-dimensions are vastly different from Aion's drill-pattern.

With a couple of part and value changes a Rat schematic makes a great and versatile Distortion. I would use the Helios pcb and mod it with a different IC, different diodes and different filtering.

I would, but I made a 1590a rat that is pretty dang good. Just trying to use up what I have on hand to keep costs down.

definitely the Face Melter. spacing won't be perfect but it has the same control layout and it sounds fucken good (as far as solid state distortions go).
here ill even link my demo lol
