Face Melter (P**** Melter) graphics

One thing I noticed that's out of place is this post. Troubleshooting topics should be posted in the troubleshooting forum. Makes it much easier for everyone to see and find later. Inspect all of the solder joints. Some look to be cold or missing, but it's hard to be sure from the photos.
Ok sorry, I moved the post into troubleshooting.

Mouser is out of the CA3240 until March 2022.
I'll hafta wait till spring to rock out with my cock out.

BUMMER: Mouser update Apr. 6: estimated shipping date is now…

JUN 14, 2022

First March, then June, now August.
No pussies will be melted until at least Aug. 23.

What a %$&^ joke. Half of that opamp isn't even being used. CA3140 is a single version of the CA3240, is easy to come by, but alas is not pin-compatible. Sometimes PedalPCB is a little too faithful in duplicating the commercial pedal.

OR, you could install a socket and plug in a TL072 until the magic CA3240 arrives. I'll wager it sounds the same.

OR….I have 12 in my inventory @xefned . 😬

I think you would need to change your name to C. D. Boner to make substantive comments about this pedal.

Very interesting. Mouser has 3500 of the single amp version in stock. I'm not afraid to dead-bug a chip and wire it with some jumpers.

Hmm. I might take you up on buying 1 of your 12. Especially if you're not planning to build 12 Apuhl M'diq Ouds. :p Although I should probably reserve my goodwill with you on some unobtainium germanium.

This will do. My urgency is mainly to help Chris420 troubleshoot his non-working unit.

Also, it would be fun to do a comparison video: can you hear the difference between a $1 TL072 and a $3.50 CA3240??

It’s free (the Fig Labs way). Shoot me your address in DM, and what you need in germanium and I’ll see what I’ve got. No worries I always keep a reserve for internal pleasure-only. ;)

PS: If you‘d like some other duals to add to the shootout I’ve got several samples I can include. I too appreciate the power of auditioning for audibles.

So i decided to make one last attempt at the custom drilled enclosure. Crossing my fingers hoping I got everything lined up right and the I can finally start building my pedal. This will be enclosure attempt #5 🤦🏻🤷🏻

Is there any data in the colour? I am trying to get this printed on Tayda’s site and it is asking if there is any data in the colour, whites and gloss. If you could help me out I’d greatly appreciate it.

Hey yes there is a bottom layer of white and top layer of gloss if you have the most updates version of my file it should have the layers already setup.

I forgot to follow up! Everyone I know wanted one, so I built 3 beautiful snatch melters for friends.
It's all thanks for the hard work of @Chris420 and the great @fig for sharing his op-amps with me.

After trying every compatible op-amp, I'm confident there's no reason to spend big money on a CA3240. This is a noisy, gnarley pedal. A fancy op-amp makes no odds.

To emulate the original with this drill template, the pots must be wired off-board.

I also hot-glued 2 pink LEDs internally, like so…

I always meant to revise the drill template and graphic to work with Robert's PCB, but I ran out of steam.
Got tired of building them for people and moved on…But I could revive that project. It would still look very close the original because the pots are only 4.32 mm off.

Update: I built a modified drill template and graphic file based on Chris's near-perfect copy, which I uploaded to Tayda in Nov. 2022, but I never ordered and can't guarantee that it's perfect. The pots are 8.64mm farther apart which gives them a wider stance:

Summary: Looks less like a perfect copy, but allows for PCB-mounted pots.

Don’t know if I should post this here but it is about the pedal. Would any one trust this, I found these CA3240EZ op-amps on Amazon but I am unsure if they are as advertised, as everywhere I look online they are $5.11 CAD each.

Hi guys,
I'm building two of this pedals, one for me and another for a friend, and i found this thread. I'm from EU (Portugal) and i will love to get my hands in two cases like those ones that you designed.
- I never ordered from tayda (neither know how it works)
- For my experience i would love to get my hands in "ready to mount" boxes, what i mean with that is...drilled and painted.

Anyone wants to guide me on an easy/and not so expensive way to made that possible?

Thanks

Well… Not that easy to get everything ready to build. Tayda would be the best guess.
You could buy the kit and predrilled enclosure (blank aluminum) from musikding.de and spraypaint it pink.
Or buy the kit and get a pink enclosure from https://www.uk-electronic.de/onlineshop/product_info.php?products_id=4324 and drill it yourself.
Print the graphic on a vinyl sticker sheet.
I definetly can do that, never tried the vinyl sticker option, but maybe i can try that...from what i saw i will need to adapt some of the labels because of the holes position of this kit compared to the original...where i can find the graphics in vector format you know?
