Jlcpcb and tariffs

  • Imported goods sent through means other than the international postal network that are valued at or under $800 and that would otherwise qualify for the de minimis exemption will be subject to all applicable duties, which shall be paid in accordance with applicable entry and payment procedures.
  • All relevant postal items containing goods that are sent through the international postal network that are valued at or under $800 and that would otherwise qualify for the de minimis exemption are subject to a duty rate of either 30% of their value or $25 per item (increasing to $50 per item after June 1, 2025). This is in lieu of any other duties, including those imposed by prior Orders.
So how does that work? For us small order people I just ordered 6.50$ worth of boards (qty 10) are we just paying 30% of each design so 2.00 for the special priced one and then 30% on the other one. If we ordered 100$ worth of one board then it would be 25$? F’n annoying

Are we saying 30% on top of the 45% I'm already paying?

New 36% on Thailand. That blows.

Well, shit. When I saw the initial 60 country list and Thailand wasn’t on it, I got my hopes up.

Now, to be clear, I’m not bitching about the following given the earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand; my problems pale in comparison to theirs. Just recounting that I placed one small order with Tayda a couple of weeks ago to go by regular mail (“30 Days! Very Slow!”) that shipped about nine days ago but still hasn’t made it into the US yet. Then I placed another order last Sunday where I ponied up for the 2-day UPS because I really needed the stuff and they usually ship that out in a day or two, But here we are four days later and it is still in “packing“ status. So, long story short, I fully expect that even if they ship the UPS package tomorrow, probably neither of my packages are going to make it to US customs until after the tariffs go into effect midnight Friday night. So that’ll be about a $50 extra charge between the two packages.

I feel so liberated on this Liberation Day.

Yea tayda at 36% is going to hurt. I still think they’ll be best for enclosures, resistors, caps etc.

It’ll be interesting to see how these impact stompbox parts, love my switches etc. mouser has been charginf 10% tariff on some stuff for a bit now.

I'm from Argentina and I'm used to this crap already. I ordered some PCBA last week. Payed 85 US dollars in product and 40 dollars in shipping on the JLCPCB site (used DHL express. Mail shipping was 30dollars and takes 2 to 3 months to arrive).
To get it into the country I also had to pay 30 dollars on import tax, 25 dollars on custom duties, and about 30 more dollars on local taxes (21% to the product + shipping).

These made productive processes very slow, and no local company PCB provides good PCBA services.
I'd assume there would be some US company that gives great PCB services at a competitive price, isn't there?

Fairly certain even after the tariffs jlcpcb is significantly cheaper still.
