Favorite 1590XX builds

I noticed I have a nice satin china mist 1590XX that I picked up from SBP at some point. What's your favorite combo that you've built in a 1590XX? Bonus points for sound clips!

Not a huge fan of combo builds but any delay and reverb combo is pretty safe, I did a hydra and Spatialist and it’s something I still find useable.

One of my favorites is the Parentheses Fuzz.

One of the most “meh” for me is the Super Heterodyne Reciever, and this is coming from someone who likes noisy PLL-based pedals.

The DuoPhase is very cool.

If you can get your hands on a Destiny Behemoth, that’s a great one.

I have a Thermionic Deluxe board, but I’ve already built the Thermionic and the Brown Betty, so I haven’t bothered with it yet.

None of those are really combo builds though.

I’ll 2nd Delay + Reverb as a solid choice.

Dirt + Boost
Octave + Dirt
A 1590BB build with extra room for mods.

The “Marriage Keeper” is cool- a Unicab and headphone amp. There’s even artwork for it.

Thanks for all the replies so far! I've only done a couple combos, the last being a Madbean Kraken + Mudbunny with a JMK Paralyzer to blend with. I shoved it all into a 1590BB with horrible graphics. Was going for a Grease Juicer type pedal.

Two I have done are:

XC Phase (Phase 90) and MadBean Current Lover (Electric Mistress Flanger)

and

Because I wanted the complete package of a Boss CE-1, including the preamp, but could not find a a board that had everything, I combined the PPCB Celsius Preamp (the CE-1 preamp) with a Lectric-FX Karaoke (which is the CE-1 chorus and vibrato without the preamp).

are those really 1590xx? they look like the xx width, but a shorter height. Looks like a bit more compact, which is nice for a dual pedal.

they look like 1590DD, XX only has 4 screws

Well, dammit, I’m an idiot because I got the two confused but I’m gonna leave that post because the world needs more proof that I’m an idiot sometimes.

How about these?

1. PPCB Unison Double Tracker and PPCB Spirit Echo, to try to replicate the double tracker and reverb functionalities of the Keeley 30ms Double Tracker

2. Or a combination of the PPCB General Tso and the Madbean Kompromat, because you can never have too many compressors?

I don’t have a picture currently, but I smashed a red llama and a tubescreamer with a 6 way rotary diode selector + series/parallel switch (works-ish) in a 1590DD. The tubescreamer boosting the red llama sounds really good.

PS you don’t want sound clips from me. I don’t just stink at playing: I turbo stink.

You don't happen to have any audio files of that? That is a most interesting build that I could see doing.

I don’t. It didn’t turn out quite the way I expected (entirely my own fault for not knowing everything about what I was building).

Specifically, I should’ve chosen a different reverb other than the Spirit Echo. On the Keeley, I believe it’s a fairly normal chamber reverb – however, the Spirit Echo is based on the EQD Ghost Echo, which is, to my ears at least, much more of an “effect-y” reverb, more for getting weird sounds than a natural-sounding room/chamber reverb. So, for my purposes in this build, it wasn’t really a good fit at all – but that’s my fault because I didn’t do enough research before choosing this reverb.

Since I can’t find another reverb project that uses the exact same layout that I could just drop into this box in place of the Spirit Echo, I would need to re-box it - if I ever decide to do that, I’d choose a more “normal” reverb and give the project another shot. Since I wasn’t getting the effect I wanted out of the Unison Double Tracker and that project uses the same Pythagoras board as some other PPCB FV-1 projects, I eventually just bought another program chip from Robert that contained some delay patches and now I just use the right side of that pedal for a digital delay and don’t really use the Spirit Echo side at all.

@mkstewartesq what reverb would you use if you had to do it over? Really interested in looking into this. I love the double tracker in my NeuralDSP software.

I would probably go with the Spacialist. It looks to just have a ton of different usable bread -and-butter reverbs.

Just based on my experience with the Spirit Echo and certain other EQD pedals, I personally - for me – would shy away from a lot of the other reverbs in the shop because they seem to be based on EQD pedals. I think what the current project calls for is just a very standard, no-nonsense chamber reverb to subtly enhance the double tracker, not something that draws attention by bringing its own odd sound and aesthetic. But I can’t say I’ve auditioned all of those EQD projects so others may feel differently based on their experiences.

I can second this about the Spatialist, it’s definitely utilitarian, it covers a lot of ground but isn’t spectacular at any one thing ,it dose a lot of different reverbs well and if you add the the internal algorithm switch mod you get even more, although it does have some patches that can do the soundscape thing reasonably it’s not the best choice if that’s what you are looking for, the ghost echo is ok but I’m personally not a huge fan of belton brick reverbs, to me they are too digital to sound analog and can be finicky like the ghost echo and drive into oscillation to easily, bricks also lacks the definition to compare to Fv-1 reverbs if you are looking for digital clarity.
