CONTEST 👻 Spooky Tales 👻 3 prizes!

CONTEST
Okay, two little silly stories.

1.) My friends and I went through a little phase way back in high school where we were really in to local urban legends, haunted houses, stuff like that. We heard there was this house out in the sticks that was supposed to be haunted (naturally, there were a variety of reasons given. Someone was murdered there, suicide, tragic death, the usual) and apparently the TV would come on randomly, lights would flash, just weird stuff like that.

So we went and checked it out. We had a BIG group with us at the time, probably 20 people honestly. We quickly realized it was basically just that someone had rigged it up with some motion sensors and stuff of that nature so that it was automated to turn on the TV, lights come on, etc. There was also a big breaker panel around the side of the house so we just flipped the breaker and it killed the power and we looked around the place; totally normal house with nothing unusual about it. Packed up and left, kind of disappointing.

Well a couple of weeks go by and for whatever reason one of us remembered that we never flipped the breaker back on. Being good little citizens or something we decided to go back and flip the power back on for the owners. I guess we were worried the pipes would freeze or other people would show up and do drugs in the old house or something, I don't exactly remember our thought process at the time.

So about a half-dozen of us go back to turn the power back on. We flip it back on and everything's back to normal and right as we're leaving four sheriff's vehicles pull up and block the drive. A couple of my buddies try and run, but it's literally just a house in the woods in the middle of nowhere, there's nowhere to run to and our car is blocked in by the cops. I was a porky ol thing in high school, weighed well over 300lbs at the time and figured "There's no point in running, i'll get caught so easily," lol. Eventually the guys who ran end up coming back and we all get sat down by the cops.

They proceed to basically tell us that the owner is a pissed off old dude who's sick of people coming to his property and that they (the police) think it's stupid and petty but he's making a huge stink out of it and they basically have to arrest us. Eventually we get let go with a future court date. The six of us (we're juniors in high school at the time) end up having to hire a lawyer, I guess. This guy sits us all down and literally says "I'm not going to be able to get you a better deal but I can make sure you don't get a WORSE one" and we're all just like...wtf.

Well in the end we each had to pay a big fine and lawyer costs, do a bunch of community service, and had to check in regularly with a probation officer for a year (lol). Her name was Donna, nice lady. Oh, and couldn't go within 1000ft of the house either, ha. IT was all a pretty big pain in the rear but ultimately good for a laugh when looking back on it.

2.) On a related note in that same time period when we were always trying to find spooky stuff we decided to go for a midnight walk in the oldest cemetery in town. It's real old and full of creepy statues and mausoleums and a bunch of people who died in the civil war. Lots of trees and hills and just generally pretty spooky and hard to see at night. We're walking along the path when all of us (again about a half dozen) without saying anything to each other all stop dead in our tracks at the same time. Nobody says a word and all just turn around and run away. Each of us saw the same thing - some dude in a cloak/hood standing behind/beside the mausoleum at the end of the path. Pretty weird. But we decide to go back a few nights later and are walking through again and hear a weird noise just off of the path. I don't know what it was but I turned and shined my flashlight in that direction and it hits right on a tombstone with the name "Sonnenschein" on it, which is the German word for "Sunshine."

It just so happens that all throughout high school my nickname that everyone called me was...of course...Sunshine. OooOOOOooOOooOOoo

That’s awesome.
I did a design for it, but no one wanted it, so now it’s a sad ghost…

And the spooky story is I still not have seen a build from those who claimed a design 🙀👻

@Feral Feline I used to have a little storyline that ran in my head on long highway car trips where if the streetlight went out while you were passing under it, it meant you would die soon. So I would watch the cars in front of me and coming towards me to see if the light went out and then imagine some “Final Destination” sort of crap.

I worked at a summer camp on an island in northern Ontario, many years ago. Some of the staff would have fun spooking the kids at night. Nothing crazy if they were too young. The older kids we tried to scare. And I had a clown mask. A basic white, with a large red smile. And eye holes, that made most people uneasy, day or night. Some nights I would put on the mask, and step off the path a little, in the bush, and wait for some kids to walk by. I'd give a little chuckle, they would stop and shine their flashlights at me. Scream and run. Very easy given the time and place.
Well, one night I thought it would be "funny" if I went into the oldest girls cabin, before they came in for the evening, and hid under the counsellor's bed. I waited a while for the kids to come in, settle down, share their gossip, turn off their flashlights and start to nod off.
As I slowly slid out from under the bed, I grabbed the counsellor's leg, she kicked and screamed. The flashlights turned on, all the sixteen year old girls started to scream. Many things of various sizes were thrown at me. Two of the dozen girls did cry a little. But after we all calmed down, we had a laugh.
I have run into some of those former kids years later, and they have said it was the scariest event that they can recall. And that they all hate clowns.
Good times.

I was a college student in Western NC, late 1970s. Spending a late evening with two friends at a beautiful mountain overlook where you could watch the fog roll in as the evening air cooled. No drugs or alcohol involved for this story. The overlook spot has stories of supernatural things but I had been there with friends many nights without incident. At the time, only a gravel road along the mountain ridge provided access between Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway. That night after being out there for over an hour sitting on a large boulder near the edge of the overlook, a voice that sounded like a growl came from right beside us saying "Get Out!" It was understandable, but sounded really strange. Maybe menacing, but only those two words. Only two of the three of us heard it, but we heard the same thing and left. There were no other cars at the pull-off and none had driven by while we were there. Nothing chased us and that was it for the night. And certainly not our last trip there, but the only time things were weird.

Fast forward to a few years ago when I was channel surfing and stopped on a Travel Channel show called These Woods Are Haunted. A very similar story was told about a couple of guys who were Western NC college students, including them being at an (unnamed) overlook hanging out and hearing a growling voice. They also saw creepier things. Here is the summary --

02. Was It Trying to Kill Me? and The Blue Ridge Encounters
A supernatural forest creature stalks a young man in Colorado. Two friends are haunted by ghostly activity and demonic growls after a strange encounter in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

I am sure it was the same spot where I had been. I can't find a free link for the show, but it is Season 2, Episode 2. Available on Vudu, Google Play, and Amazon. You might be able to find it on demand if you subscribe to the Travel Channel.

Happy Halloween!
