1981 Inventions LVL

any insight into the lack of tone control? Does the EQ change with gain like a 250?
I don't want to blow this thing up before it's officially announced, so I'm withholding some details. But there is some contouring in tandem with the gain control. Like the DRV, it's ultimately all dialed in for Matt's specific preferences. Dude has good ears. He's played every good boost pedal under the sun and still wanted something different. A subtle but fun challenge.

Well now I’m really curious.

I’d like to clarify my original comment. John from EAE seems like a really knowledgeable guy and very passionate about his pedals and his company. He is literally all over any social media or post anywhere about his stuff and trying to help or clarify things.

When the Mofeta stuff happened, he seemed to come at it from an engineer aspect nerding out about his designs, which I totally appreciate. Not trying to throw any bad energy his way I just remember him having an issue with the layout and stuff.

I’m sure one day I’ll cave and spend the money on a long sword or a limelight or both.

John is alright with me. We started off a little bumpy and I totally get that, but things never got "ugly" and I respect that.

At the end of the day showing your ass doesn't solve anything...

I don't even understand the mindset behind bashing random forum members who had absolutely nothing to do with the decision to offer a particular project. All you've done is created an entirely new thing, "spite builds". :ROFLMAO:

All good. I try to keep an ear to the ground where I can.

I was definitely bummed when that happened, but I'm over it. Tracing commercially available stuff is cool for learning; I certainly studied a lot of traces when I was getting started so hopefully folks learn a thing or two from the model fet trace. Getting undercut by clone farms does sting, though. Rent doesn't pay itself. If you can support us in the future, it is always appreciated.

I probably showed like, half a cheek.

I think I just ordered a Mu Blaster pcb from you.

Dude how did I not realize that you were in this thread?! I would have just @you haha. Even when Robert gave props to you after your first comment it didn’t click and the MA specific name… 🤦‍♂️

Must be that you had a different avatar last time I saw you on here and for some reason I read your first comment as the guy from Bondi because of the 1981 which also doesn’t make sense..

Anyways once I get out of my diy MIDI controller hell I’ll probably start socking funds away for a new drive pedal.

Thank you! That's a fun build, and a good introduction to SMT.
You are more than welcome to put a link to your DIY offerings in your signature if you'd like. It's the least I can offer.
Thanks, good idea. I'm overdue for cleaning up the schematics page. Eventually each one will have its own blog post with analyses, notes, etc. Not enough hours in a day.
Speaking of which, are beholder PCBs coming back, or was that a limited thing? Seems like it would be a totally rad circuit to run some synths thru
They are! And it is very fun with synths as an input. I just keep forgetting to reorder. Been meaning to combine orders with a couple other DIY offerings in the works but I keep putting it off. One is another old EAE pedal called the Inverter drive which is a take on the CMOS thing, another is a modified Maestro Fuzztain. I have a few others in the works, but most of the work is cleaning up layouts I did from 2017-2018 to my current standards. I have so many abandoned project ideas that would be great for DIY.

All good! Good luck with the MIDI controller project. That stuff is deceptively complicated. We've been working on MIDI infrastructure for a couple months now and it really gets brutal with all the edge cases.

Thanks man. Yeah because I have to draw the line at somewhere I decided I don’t have the time or skill at this point to build software to manage patches and menus on the fly (seriously just buy a Morningstar) so I’m doing it all in code. Hoping I won’t be changing much down the line anyways.
