AionFx Emerald (Boss PH-1r)…

The first phaser I ever spent a decent amount of time with was an old Boss PH-1r. I always loved how you could get so many different tones out of it. Now I have one of my own. This build was relatively easy…it took me 4 months. It is not a hard build at all, especially since I bought the matched JFETs from Aion. The problem was that I kept running out of parts (Aion builds use more/different “standard” parts, like for power filtering, than PPCB, so I kept running into components I don’t usually keep on hand). This version of the circuit adds a master volume, which sounds best maxed.

Sound-wise, this is a classic phasor, in the Phase 90 family. The difference is that the PH-1r has a resonance control, like the Phasor II (all hail!). It doesn’t really sound like a Phase 90. The PH-1r has a lighter, airier tone than the Phase 90. You can get more variety of tones than the Phase 90, however. The Phasor II still reigns supreme…

I was gonna label everything, but I like how simple it looks. My other Boss build (CE-2) is the same way (blue instead of green). I think I’ll do all my Boss builds this way. One major issue: the paint. This is my last painted enclosure from Tayda. I would rather just paint it myself than have to try and remove enough paint from the inside of the enclosure to make a proper ground connection. Tayda sound try spraying instead if dunking…

You definitely need a duophase…just tried stereo for the first time ever with 2 speakers. That is one of the coolest things to experience in my opinion with the duophase. I want to get some headphones and really space out..
