Black Friday sales 2022

These days I only trust Mouser and Digikey to deliver legit parts
…because of these past experiences:
I've received counterfeit capacitors from Futurlec and Tayda.
I've gotten counterfeit “Texas Instruments” ICs from Jameco.
Dumb newb question.. but how'd you know they were fake?

AionFX finally started their sale. 10% off kits, 20% off PCBs through Monday the 28th.
Thanks for this.. I've been wanting their Corona PCB so I went ahead and got it and the Legacy Refractor with Refractor Bypass.

Also, it reminded me that I wanted the ODD ONE OUT by Effects Layouts and they are having a 20% off sale too through the 30th. I got that one and the SKELEKLONE MK.II because why not another Klon type PCB. I also got the Horde Howler because it was cheap and I've never built a tube screamer... and this one can be built 8 different ways apparently.

Visibly comparing them to known authentics.

In the case of the Wimas I got from Futurlec, I sent Wima a picture. Surprisingly, Wima wrote back, confirming they did not manufacture the ones in the picture and reminding me to only buy from authorized distributors. This was back in 2005, so I've known about this issue for a long time. I can only blame myself for subsequent purchases.

The weird thing is: I didn't care if they were Wima caps. I just wanted cheap polyester box caps. They measured correctly, and I used them. They worked fine. So why put fake brand names on them? Not even necessary.

The “Nichicon”s from Tayda are also fake. So if you just want cheap caps that work, don't pay 15¢ for ones with the name "Nichicon" printed on the body; just pay .

Told myself I wouldn’t buy any PCBs during all these sales, but I couldn’t resist the new L5 preamp boards. It’s each channel of the preamp separated onto its own board, plus a DC converter on both so you don’t have to use an AC adaptor. That was the main thing holding me back from doing the full L5.

The challenge of pulling off the full L5 is too much for me to pass up. I bought it last sale. The AC does suck though.

I missed this post.

Alas, unless I'm mistaken the Aion prices seem to have gone up, too.

I also missed this post:

Are there any inexpensive Fender amps on sale right now that are good pedal platforms? I saw the Champion was really cheap as well as the 50 watt Mustang but I don't know anything about them.

I got the Effects Layout shipment yesterday (came fast) and he threw in some 3DPT breakout boards for them. Very cool! I got all this shipped for $22. Sorry these aren't all flipped the correct way for the pic.. It was surprising to see how small they are as this was my first shipment of PCB boards.
