Does it make a difference which side the collector is on (left vs right) as far as sound goes? I currently have my build with it on the right and bias set to 4.5V. I guess I was expecting a little more crunch out of this after listening to the Red Rooster demos. Otherwise it’s quiet and seems to work.

Collector on the right looks correct at first glance. It should be connected directly into the boost pot.

Your bias is off, though. It should be at least between 6.5V and 7V for the classic treble booster grit.

What transistor are you using? And did you happen to test it for hFE and leakage?

Collector on the right, to the boost pot as caiofilipini noted.

Transistor should be around 80-100hfe with low leakage if you’re testing.

I used a CV7112 with 90 hfe and zero leakage. The collector to the right looked to be correct but I know the CV7112 collector and emitter positions can be swapped.

Thanks for clarifying for me!

I had this with the aft preamp too. Followed the datasheet for the correct pin out and it just didnt sound right. I was about to start trouble shooting but tried the transistor the other way around first and it came to life.
