Before I begin, i'm not trying to go crazy with this but for the sake of better understanding what the hell i'm doing ...
When it get's down to electrolytic capacitors, I stick with Nichicon and Panasonic. I'll eliminate some choosing by filtering dimensions, voltage, dimensions, Tolerance, polarization, though hole type and availability but still there are still a lot of different series to choose from within the brand that it's hard to keep up to some point.
What is really critical?
- Impedance: I have been reading through the forum that low impedance is preferred. What should we consider as low for pedal building?
- Lifetime ... is this really a factor in guitar pedals?
- Is Ripple Current @ high/low frequency a factor?
- Should I consider it's location/usage in the circuit?
- Are there series that should be prioritized or avoided?
Here's an example for 4.7uF ... I got it down to 3 possibilities ... not that bad.
Here are the difference in attributes (screen shot) and link @ bottom to digikey comparison table.
