G&L guitars getting sold?

I used to share rehearsal space with a dude who plays their p bass. It was solid but I wasn't super into it. Another "got it right the first time" situation. Like an 80's Ford mustang, they tried to cram something classic into a sleeker and more efficient package until it wasn't similar enough to the original anymore.

The logo.... nothing in this world is dorkier than a treble clef. Maybe I'm biased because my parents were both music educators but anything with a clef on it is an immediate turn off for me. I'm so glad I never got the tenor clef tattoo I had planned back in college.

(No hate on anyone who has a musical tattoo as long as the notation is accurate)

Random thought. Turned 18’in 97, was thinking man im going to get treble clef on my forearm for a tatoo soon as i can. Seemed original at the time. Then i saw several people with them. No tats to this day, and am so thankful i didn’t get that one.

Sad to see leo fenders last hooray go away though. Never owned one or played one that i can recall. But his designs are pretty much where all this started. Dont own any pre cbs stuff but a couple silverface amps which are mostly the same designs. And will be turned off to see fender now shamelessly using his image etc.

Some of G&L's recent designs were marketed as "what would Leo have done"? which I've gotta admit is quite the stretch. I had 2 Tributes - S500 and ASAT Special. I thought the big rectangular white pickups on the ASAT looked janky but the headstock never set me off like so many. I used each on one recording and then they fell out of favor, mostly because I found them to be rather heavy. So I don't have either one any more, but I somewhat miss the ASAT.

I don’t know about the Doheny but the Espada was built off of a prototype made by Leo. The McClarens documented all that on social media. The US made are probably lighter. My S500 is pretty light. My ASAT is a bit on the heavier side but not too bad. It sounds killer.

The bassist from Fu Manchu (Brad... Davies?) /pedal maker known as Creepyfingers is a G&L devotee as well.

I toured with an L-2000 for a spell, it was solid and sounded great. Never brought a back up.

I had a pair of SB-2 that I toured with. Loved them, both were outstanding.

I grew up seeing Umphrey's McGee often and Jake Cinninger (almost) always plays a G&L Comanche. It's Dad Rock but almost always a cool show. I dig the PUPs and the build quality always seemed a step up not just in ways that were advertised but in the details. Sad to see them go but there will be used options out there for years to come. Hard to get bummed about new guitars not being made when I wouldn't buy one anyways.

I really have to wonder what he would change on a signature unless G&L is gonna start making Jake Blades. I don't know if I've ever heard him talk about or seen him use the switch to mess with his pickup config so maybe he would remove that. I do know he likes the treble and bass rolloffs. I've seen him play a comanche loaded with Bare knuckle Pups so maybe they'd have wound him some extra hot zcoils.

Oh for sure. But Dad rock all the same. Nothing like getting hit with Wizard Burial Ground. I also love Ryan Stasik as a bassist. That band just works well together.

Roughgauge will continue making jake blades and I believe sent out the order to G&L. I haven’t spoken to them since the announcement so I am not a 100% sure.

During Covid, I had lessons with Jake and BB and the signature G&L was in the works back then. I never asked about specs or anything but was excited to hear the idea of a JC sig.

This dad fucking rocks his ass off at every show I can and when “The Floor” comes on I rage, complete rage!
