JHS 3 series Overdrive

I think it’s very smart to have the enclosures all drilled the same. Think about what a cost savings that is if you want 50k enclosures all drilled and painted identically.

I think they all sounded good too. I really liked the compressor and reverb. I’m not sure how you can go wrong with any of these pedals. I think a lot of people who need a rat or a fuzz, and they don’t have a brain disease like we all do here, will happily spend $99 to get one from a company with a great reputation.

You can buy a Joyo Rat on Amazon for $34.99 with free shipping right now. LINK
And the Joyo Ross compressor is $37.99. LINK

This new JHS 3 series will sell like crazy because Josh is a supernatural salesman. I don't want to rehash all the old drama, but IMHO the pedal company with the worst reputation is JHS and you could call me 'never JHS.' At the same time, I'll also say his social media marketing is second to none and he's in a league of his own.

I’m familiar with all of the old drama. I remember when he started getting big and his “designs and mods” were getting torn apart by everyone on diystompboxes and freestompboxes

Most guitarists are oblivious to all of that. They are not “online” the same way that we are.

Joyo does not share the same reputation among players as JHS either. And I say that as someone who owns more joyo (3) pedals than JHS (0)

I figured this was just a tube screamer with different clipping diodes on the switch. I'm kind of surprised he actually tweaked some of the component values. Looks like it would have a little more output because of R14 being 10k instead of 1k. Also a bit brighter sounding and less midrange focused because of C13 being .1uf instead of .22uf.

I don't really care about all the online noise abut JHS - it can be hard to please a bunch of brave online warriors. I just find him a little bit annoying in his videos. But I do think this new line of pedals is a great idea and almost a big middle finger to the purveyors of $500 Tubescreamers, Timmys and Rats.

He just posted the schematic on their live stream, probably don't actually need a board, but might be fun to mod this one

That schematic looks vaguely familiar...

I wrote to JHS last year, asking for a schematic for the Kilt. Their engineer told me they don't give out schematics. Maybe they do, maybe they don't, but they sure as Hell depend on other peoples' schematics.

I took a shot of the other 3 analog ones too

The compressor is a shitty design. LM13700's are noisy when used that way and this circuit contains some of the same design mistakes to removed from the Delegate. I'm hoping PedalPCB releases the Engineer's Thumb board someday soon. Otherwise, it's Vero time. Now THAT's a compressor!

The Fuzz design is silly. Why add a gain stage at the end? All you have to do is increase R2 to 1.8K and decrease R4 to 6.8K get the same volume without the added gain stage.

The Kilt has a boost, which I'm not seeing in this schematic. I know they plagiarized the Expandora for most of it, but I'm curious to know which component values they tweaked, if any. Their engineer did offer this bit of misdirection: the transistor part number used for Q1 is critical.

I have a board here that needs to be verified. I know it had an error or two at one point, but now I can't recall if I ever corrected/reordered them or not. This one keeps slipping through the cracks....

I should probably send you the schematic to see if anything is out of order.
