No more 99 cent shipping from Tayda!?!

My recollection is that they weren't shipping from Thailand via USPS, but were doing packet shipping (i.e. ship a big box of pre-packaged orders to a company in Colorado that would open the box and hand the individual packages over to USPS). I haven't noticed a meaningful change in USPS prices over the last few years, but the cost for low-skilled warehouse labor has definitely gone through the roof. A couple of other Asian vendors that used to do packet shipping have stopped over the last year, so I suspect that packet shipping prices are the likely culprit.
They were definitely packet shipping as you described. I personally have seen the basic shipping from them straight up double in from two years ago. No more parcel post and my small packages went from $5 to $10 on average.

How much was your order total? DHL shipping costs seem to decrease with higher order totals.

So the $1 shipping is back, hooray!

Edit: As a side note, I do the customs declarations myself since it costs nothing for me over here in Finland, and I can mark them all as just one line item as long as the value is under 150€ (and tax is the same for all the parts). Soooo in practice I will never order more than 150€ in one go from Tayda because fuck listing all the fifty different types of parts in the archaic system where I could just barely find "metal resistors, under 5W" and pretty much nothing else.

I mark the pedal PCB's as "guitar accessories" because it's the best I could find.

That must be the reason.

So, what if I'd gone over $200? I wonder if $200 is the magic threshold for $1 shipping.

I'd have gladly spent another $6 on knobs to save $2.50. :)

There also seems to be a weight/ size threshold where it goes up. My last order started at $12 in shipping, then shot up to $50. I removed like 8 enclosures and it dropped back to 12. Price was just over 300.

Yep, I just ran a bunch of tests. It does 2 calculations: the first for dollar amount, then a 2nd for weight.
You can see free shipping turn into $1 shipping once you go above 2.68 kg.

Someone with more computer smarts needs to brute force the cart with every possible permutation of items and quantities (a few septillion data points?) to figure out exactly what the shipping price algorithm is

I've had a similar thing happen with JLCPCB. I can't remember the weight threshold but at some point the shipping costs drop drastically, then start climbing again. In that case it was all about the weight, not the cost.

Quantity 15 was the magic number with my latest JLCPCB order. (2.5" x 2" boards.)

i.e. 15 boards cost less per board than 20. Slightly unintuitive. (The next logical quantity is 100.)

I haven't ordered in a while and I put in an order on Dec 27th. and chose the cheapest shipping option. It hasn't shown up yet.

Postal Service SF
Postal Service 30 days Slow !!! $3.99

I just tried a new order and I get that same option in the USA no matter what state or zip code I choose.

Yeah, I got that option the other day for a resistor order. I haven't tried with a box order yet but I was happy to choose it for this one.
