Our hallucinating AI overlords

I'm assuming it was confused by the lack of e's, and that you meant vowels. But then it screwed up counting. Anyway you look at it, there's A LOT of coding still needed....

I realized 10 years ago that I could write a self-learning program, and it was going to be part of a "work flow management" system that was proposed. This program would have the ability to learn what documents needed processing by who, and would be able to detect good and bad responses to it's efforts.

On the same day I was outside pacing and having the realization that I could write an AI routine that would be capable of understanding bad and good, I saw one of the triangle type UFO's lazily bobbing around in the San Gabriel mountains (I'm in one of the hottest ufo locations on the planet, close-ish to Santa Monica).

As I'm looking at it, it appeared to have glowing shingles, that were going in and out of sight. Then it was gone. I looked around and finally found it about a mile higher, which it covered in a millisecond. I watched it for a good 7 minutes before it shot upwards.

I had the odd feeling that somehow my epiphanies were being aided by an AI on that craft, and it was at that exact moment I decided I was going to retire, as I didn't want to be the programmer that created Frankenstein, or the cylons....

Several years later the military released videos of THE SAME TRIANGLE WITH GLOWING SHINGLES over one of it's nuclear battleships, which was carrying nukes for the first time in several decades.

And no, I'm not stoned or drunk. Yet. Time to feed the animals, then it's party time.

edited:And it wasn't an isosceles triangle, more of a skewed right triangle. And not only were the shingles glowing on and off but the craft itself was becoming transparent, then solid. FREAKY!

AI overlord spotted

I, for one, welcome our new AI overlords.
How about Robot AI overlords? This has the chick from Xfiles and Ben Kingsley and WENT NO WHERE but it's totally excellent. Highly recommended.

I have this video, the robots take over earth because they're bored. They shut everyone in their houses, just like the pandemic but six years earlier, and then suck their brains out looking for "something new", which of course is NOT like the pandemic.

For the "Elsa Soldering a Guitar Pedal" pic (as found elsewhere on the forum), my first ever attempt at using an AI generated image,
one of the results AI offered up was this lovely guitar-pedal:

No soldering apparatus evident at all, but what a cute guitar-pedal!

There was a time in my youth when I might've been interested in AI, but... meh.

AI is proof that just because you can doesn't mean you should.
I've been saying that since the 80's, but AI was only a dream then. I actually said it like "Computers, just because you can doesn't mean you should." Management was always wanting to use systems to do all kinds of invasive productivity tracking.

A) it's not possible to quantize interruptions, which constantly plague service oriented positions.

B) if the manager doesn't know who is productive and who is a slacker, the manager shouldn't be a manager. That's the freaking job for crying out loud....

Heartstrings...

I've told my bosses that frequently, I know wtf my coworkers are actually doing, if you don't not up to me to narc them out.. and if the AI is out to get us, my money is the main reason being for all the shartpost 'songs' smart arses been bombing YT with...

And being frequently at an entrance to my work(is in entertainment for the mass public) I'm constantly pestered with questions and glad I don't have to attempt to keep a log/record of what I did so far. /soapbox

LLMs hallucinating information is a pretty common issue. That’s because they don’t contain knowledge at all, they are just good at predicting how to put words one after the next. This AI hype is so overblown, I’m pretty frustrated by all of it. If you guys are curious I found this video pretty interesting:

Just read this article on BBC (no, not big black...) about Sheryl Crow's views on AI. It's funny - Sheryl Crow seems like someone I would love to meet and talk with, but while I like her music it's not really for me. But she seems so cool and i agree with her a lot!
