SOLVED Parentheses 2020 - Boost Dead

The distortion and octave footswitch functions work beautifully in all 4 rotary switch modes. Any idea what I may have done wrong to make the pedal go dead when I engage the boost footswitch?

You might have a bunk BS170

- You used a bad part.
- You built it wrong.

Measure the drain voltage on Q6.

I have BS170s on order. I’m using a 2N7000 in place of it right now. Could that be the issue?

The pinout for 2N7000 is different from BS170. Did you account for that?

Voltages are as follows, from left to right on Q6:

1.02
0.49
0.39

Turn the 2N7000 around, then it should work. You can't just sub transistors without checking the pinouts.

Many thanks, I’ve never subbed transistors and checked the pinouts, I just assumed it was the same. Chalk one up for a learning experience. ??

The majority of BJTs have the same pinout, however some of the ones we use in pedals have odd-ball pinouts. There is no standard pinout for JFETs and MOSFETs.

Glad it was an easy fix.
